Do coyotes in an area push deer away? I've heard different theories but this past weekend I hunted a new spot and the moment I got to the woods I heard about 6 coyotes go off. After that it was a very quiet morning. I got a lot of trail camera activity at this spot but I'm worried the coyotes will mess up my spot. I'm going back in two weeks to hunt it again. Theres a pack of 4-6 in the woods I hunt...saw them half the time I was out hunting last year and I still saw deer on a regular basis...I moved my stand this year so I cant shoot at the coyotes because the trail was too far for a shot last year...this year I'm going to try and clean house on them! The coyotes would also cruise through the adjacent bedding areas I hunt and the deer still use that bedding area. I feel if the deer have a traumatic experience they may be weary in those areas...but coyotes and deer coexist and they are aware of each other so they may not really have messed your spot up...more than likely maybe the deer came in after you left?...Deer, like humans are creatures of habit...you should be fine.
I've seen coyotes walk down a trail, then 15 minutes later deer walking down the same trail. I think you'll be ok. Fling one at them if you see them if you're worried about it.
