Never happened before this weekend to me...but they got to my buck before I did ate most of one hind quarter and I am wondering how much meat do I have to throw out because of this...can I trim around it and if so how much away from where they ate off it?

Never had it happen myself (I hunt in NY)......but if it was me I would toss the entire hind quarter they chewed up and keep everything else.

If I saw bites anywhere else I would toss that as well.

Better safe then sorry. You can always get more meat.

Big time congrats again bud :)

Sorry man, but I've heard once they have claimed a carcass that they also urinate on it to lay claim to their prize. I wouldn't take any chances and give it back to the yotes.

Just trim off the eaten parts. It's not like coyotes are venomous or anything.

Even if a coyote did whiz on a carcass (and I've seen coyotes munching on carcasses and never seen them do that) the deer's hide would prevent any 'yote pee contamination.

Exactly Christine, nothing to worry about. You've got nothing to worry about BTD, just do some trimming where they were eating.

What was the time period from shot to recovery that the yotes did that?

Just curious. I've sat on a kill once (wasn't sure where she went) and the yotes showed us where she was. When we moved in, the yotes kept circling us.

leave that one qrt. your gonna be fine even if they did piss on it. Your not gonna die, or get sick for that matter....how many times has a person ever accidently cut the piss sack in a deer and still eat the meat...i know alot....and the hide would have prevented it from touching any meat.

When I shot a buck two years ago, I thought I saw the buck go down but I wasn't 100% sure. After an hour I could hear stuff moving around in the area I last saw the deer. I was worried it was the deer so I waited another hour before going over there. Ends up it was coyotes eating him. While I struggled getting the stiff deer onto my game cart the coyotes kept circling me and yapping. Sometimes they were pretty close. I was very ticked at them and I would have happily strangled one with my bare hands if I could have gotten my hands on of them. I even held my big maglite in a manner that would have allowed easy coyote noggin bopping if one should be so bold. Sadly, they weren't.

You own a dog? Raw diets are great for them and they love venison
