My little brother and I were hunting public land last night and he gut shot a small 6 pointer. It was his first buck ever. We decided to let it sit over night. We tracked it this morning and found a bed 80 yards from where he shot it. In the bed was a pile of hair. After the bed we tracked it 50 yards farther and this is what we found. Have any of you had a deer eaten this much by coyotes in 1 night?

That little 6pt had a really bad day! The over night coyote damage isn't surprising.

They will demolish a deer no prob if it’s a good sized pack. Then the other critters and birds help clean up as well

Had that same exact thing happen to me twice. One night they can certainly take care of a deer. I don't know how they can waddle away after gorging themselves like that.

It doesn't take a bunch of yotes to do that either. They will gorge themselves and then go throw up in a hole they've dug then it's back for more

I’d start coyote hunting in that area.

Wow, I've never seen that kind of devastation. I've had the hind quarter eaten out of one, but that's insane.

I hunt a very large public land spot. The total kill on that spot was averaging about 1000 deer a year about 10 to 15 years ago. Then the coyotes moved in big time. That and some liberal doe limits have reduced our overall kill by 60 to 70 percent over the past 5 years. They did some telemetry studies on doe fawns a couple years ago. They collared 30 fawns. Not one fawn made it from spring to fall. Every last one of them was thought to be killed by coyotes. Researches discovered their remains and it appeared they had been eaten by coyotes. This year was a little bit better as half the fawns made it. I am glad I killed a coyote a few weeks ago...Id kill them all if I could.

Ho;y smokes! In all my years hunting I've never had to leave one over night, or really track a lot, but I'd never dream that was an overnight deal. Wow! Coyotes are a bad problem here as well. If I ever have one not go down in sight I'll just plan on searching all night.

About 4 years ago I walked up on a doe I'd shot maybe 20 min earlier. I shot her at about 28 yds and she ran into a small clump of trees and I could kinda see her go down and heard her. When i got to her there were 4 yotes about to eat on her. 35 lbs is big for around here and one looked well over 40lb and the other 3 high 20s.

I didn't pay much mind but every time I'd start to gut, the big one would snarl and charge, when I'd raise up it would stop and back up a bit. We played that dance 2-3 times and I shot it with my handgun. The other three were outta sight but I could hear them moan.

A couple years ago my buddy shot (gun) a buck near dark. He knew it was a good shot. He walked home to get on lighter, old clothes to get it. When he got back, about an hour later, he could hear yotes as he was walking in. They already found it. Mostly ripped to shreds. He found nothing to save/take home. I bet a gun shot is like a dinner bell to them, thinking there will be a gut pile. I know a gun shot can be a Grizzly's dinner bell in Alaska....been there. Now that's a thrill.

Yep seen that many a time. Kansas Game warden had a video of two big bucks with their racks stuck together. One buck was dead and mostly eaten by coyotes. The game warden shot the rack till the live buck was freed. You can Google to see the officer cam.
