Every deer hunter should be a coyote hunter. Anytime hunting deer if I see yote I shoot it. Dec 31 deer season closes here. So January through march I hit the woods just as often as deer season shooting the coyote. That's where my robinson comes in handy.
I used to hunt and trap coyotes; killed a bunch too. Now I'll shoot one occasionally but I don't hate them. They have their place and I respect them.
As soon as bow season is over or I have bagged a buck I start coyote hunting for the rest of the winter, 6-8 sets a week if my schedule allows.
Yes usually first of February ill get out a few times. When I'm not quite ready to put the bow away yet!!
I plan on putting my new Winchester Model 70 .257 Roberts to work post deer season on yote specific hunting....yeah I plan on loading it hot too...I want no doubters. :D
It is an awesome gun in AR platform. Love to coyote hunt. Mostly the same principles as deer hunting too. Sitting still, accuracy, scent control, and knowing the lay of the land.
Yeah, when I get time to go. I've got a Remington Model 700 VTR in .243. Works very well for coyotes.
Let an arrow fly at 1 last fall but only found a twig instead. Got my 30.06 all dialed in for WI...but my buddy fu@&ed up our hunting camp(can u tell I'm still mad at him) so I'm hoping to hammer a yote with it after the deer season ends here in IL.
I have seen way to many run off to ever hunt with a .223 or 204 or anything under a 22-250. Coyote calling is intense and action packed, though proper shot placement is possible, even in the best of circumstances it is rare; therefore I prefer something with a little more umph which is why I shoot a 220 Swift.
Had my 223 out this afternoon, unfortunately the song dogs weren't cooperative. I shoot all I see and trap as many as I can. Nothing (too) personal.
