But do you blame all that on Romo? You can say the guy didn't get it done against the broncos but he put up 48 points and over 500 yds of offense. Yet the fans focus on the one interception. If that same interception occurred in the first quarter it wouldn't have even been talked about today. That game was lost solely by the defense, no one else. Blaming the QB is easy, you might as well blame Matt Ryan for the falcons losing tonight, which ridiculous. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Patience???? They have a playoff win in over a decade. That's pretty patient lol. Like I said before it's a strange thing with Romo because there really isn't another immediate option. At this point in the Cowboys lives I wouldn't mind starting from scratch with a QB to be developed in the new era of the NFL. But it didnt'... and it doesn't! It's ALWAYS in crucial moments. Something is wired wrong with the dude in that respect. It happens time and time again. Of course you can't blame Romo for the loss entirely. But the ball is usually in his hands when he's needed most and fails time and time again. There is a common denominator for the Cowboys underachieving and it starts with Romo. I also think what gets lost in the shuffle is over the years the weapons at his disposal that makes his job easier. He's not exactly throwing to chopped liver. I don't care if you throw for 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns. If you can't get it done when it matters, what's the point. Give Brady or Manning the ball with a tie game and 2 minutes left and you can pretty much say game over. Give Romo the ball in the same situation and you can pretty much say.... game over.
I guess that's the point I was trying to make, the patience is running out. I think too the problem with Romo is that a lot of people list him as elite (his contract certainly suggests that), therefore fans are expecting more from him. Jerry has a way of paying some of his guys more than what they are maybe worth and then expecting them to play at their pay level. That is a double edge sword because it has and will backfire.
Not sure how you blame a QB that threw for over 500 yds and 5 TD's. 100% of the blame for this lose should be with the defense. If not for Romo, it would have been a blowout. I've had bad words for him over the years but that was his first 'legit' interception of the year. Did it come at a bad time? Yes. But when he is carrying the weight of the whole team on his back, he will eventually fall. Any qb would. I'd also question the play calling on that final series. At least Denver tried to keep some sort of running game going to keep the Dallas D on their toes. The cowboys didn't. A draw would have worked perfectly with the way they were rushing.
He went toe to toe with one of the best QB's of all time. A damn good game he played. I felt for Romo when I saw the interception.
I don't care who the QB is. As long as Jerry Jones is your "GM", your team is going to have a difficult time. Drafting a QB won't solve your issues over night. How many have been drafted into the league since Romo came in? How many can you say are better than him right now? I'll gladly let the Rams deal you guys Sam Bradfrord if you want to swap?
WOW!!! You're done with Tony Romo, huh??? Well send him to Cleveland or any other team in the league without a guy named Peyton or Drew as their QB right now and I think they'd take him.... GB may not take him, but most other teams are gonna be more than willing to welcome him in.... What you should be ticked about is the fact that Dallas got a new defensive coordinator, but not a new result... Tony is certainly NOT the problem when he's played a near perfect game all day, and some Broncos linebacker makes a hero leap to snag a ball that really looked to be a well thrown ball until that leap.... I'm willing to send you Brandon Weedon next year's first rounder for Tony to be in Cleveland tomorrow..... Amen, brother, amen....
New England Pittsburgh Cincinnati Baltimore Denver San Diego Kansas City Indianapolis New York Giants Washington Green Bay New Orleans Atlanta Seattle San Francisco No way these teams trade for Romo and his contract.
Would be easy to give #9 a pass if this was the first time he'd done this. Or the 2nd, or 3rd for that matter. The guy has a tendency to do this, over, & over. He'll play lights out for 58 minutes, then make that one boneheaded play that plays a significant part in losing the game. It's easy to blame the defense. 51 pts is a lot. Even vs. one of the best QB's of all time. They WERE averaging 45pts/game though. But, how many Cowboys fans, if you told us before the game, with 2 minutes left, and a tie ball game & the ball......wouldn't have been surprised..? Most were expecting a blow out. There we were, two minutes left, have the ball, & a chance for Romo to become a legend....nope. We've seen this story before, multiple times in fact. Romo is good but not great. He's just good enough to break your heart. Just good enough to suck you in, get you to believe, JUST to take it away from ya....lol. Been a Cowboys fan for a looooong time. We've certainly had much worse QB's than Romo since Aikman retired but, I can't ever remember a QB as good as Romo, that is more prone to choking when it matters most. Really on any team, let alone Dallas. There's been plenty of chokers out there, but not too many as good as Romo appears. Manning was a great example, till he got a ring. Elway too...but, Tony's got a ways to go before he gets the monkey off his back. This game will live in NFL films forever. It's too bad it goes in Mannings highlight reel instead of Romos. Would love to have seen him pull this one out.....sure felt like he "deserved it".........well, for 58 minutes anyways.... #CowboysFanforLife
Viper, Elway was never a choker but rather the opposite, he was known for MANY 4th quarter comebacks in his career. You can't blame him for the 3 Superbowl losses early in his career....his team has heavily outmatched by the NFC in every case...he carried those Bronco teams on his back as far as he could
Romo has no excuse to not make a deep playoff run this year. He has a running game (Murray). He has a solid core of receivers led by Dez Bryant who is 2nd only to Calvin Johnson in this league, and one of the leagues better TE's in Jason Whitten.
Denver bring the exception, if you don't have a decent defense then having a great offense will not get you far. Cowboys/Denver was a prime example of that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
Come on man..!!! For years he was labeled a choker. Im not a hater, or saying it was justified but remember the time frame well. Elway, & the Broncos were the butt of many jokes until Elway rode off into the sunset a 2 time Champ. Romo has MANY 4th quarter comebacks too. I wanna say leads the NFL the last few years....does that mean he's no choker..? Romo is a really good QB. He just gets weak in the knees when it matters most. His record in elimination games is 1-6.....that's not very good.
THANK YOU!! That's it in a nutshell. Anytime Romo has a chance to right his own ship and prove to people he can take the moment and make it happen..... he chokes! Bigtime. The thing is this isn't just a fluke or one... two.. three time thing. There is a long history of this and like Viper said something clicks in and he gets weak in the knees. I simply think he can't handle the moment. He resorts to his undrafted free agent status when it matters. And it's never going to change. I think the botched snap in Seattle may have set the tone for him... maybe some therapy or something would help? That's the thing (include healthy Miles Austin). Give another "elite" QB those weapons and that's a dangerous Super Bowl contending team (should be).
Agreed... He has a lot of weapons this year. But how many points does this offense have to score to win? What happened to the old adage of 'Defense Wins Championships"? I think the Cowboys screwed up by getting rid of Ryan as D. Cord. Look at what he has done with the Saints. They didn't have a defense the last couple of years. It's easy to lay every lose on Romo's head. But when you really look at it, the defense lost that game, period. I don't care that it was Manning.
How many points..? Depends on the game...lol. This was certainly encouraging to see the O score that many points but, Denver's defense isnt exactly great, or lock down. Especially without Miller. vs. KC & SD the offense put up 3tds combined..?! No secret whey we lost those games imo. The only thing the Cowboys have been consistent at the last few years, is being inconsistent. I don't disagree with you about firing Ryan. I thought he was refreshing. Nice to have a coach with balls. That's been lacking for some time. He was the scapegoat. He's gonna be foaming at the mouth when we play New Orleans in a few weeks. While I think the defense is certainly sub standard, and or not playing to the level they should. I think the offense deserves less of a pass than the defense. Garrett has been running this offense for what 6yrs..? With the "talent" & stars on the offensive side of the ball, & a coach with plenty of years developing "his" scheme, or offense they should be putting up big numbers a lot more than they have. Not to mention, how do you expect to win consistently when your running back gets 12 carries in a game..? Murray may not be elite but, he's doin well with the limited opps he gets. We don't run the ball enough imo.
100% agree about the play calling. Though Garrett isn't calling the plays this year. Bill Callahan is. The Cowboys have been too quick to dump the run for years now. Which goes back to my point of Romo having to carry the team on his shoulders. He's a very good QB, but not good enough to carry the team game after game. I still have high hopes for this team this year (I know, glutton for punishment) as long as they stay relatively injury free. With the conference looking so bad, I think the Cowboys could easily slip into the playoffs. And once there, anything could happen. If we could just skip that New Orleans game that would be great
