I don't use straps because they stick out like a sore thumb and can be seen very easy by a thief. I use a long boot type shoe string and a cord lock on cams that I think are in safe places. If I think the cam may be spotted I use Python cables.

That's actually a really good idea.... What length do you normally use?

I think we have some 24" cable ties laying around the garage.

I'm guessing it depends on the diameter of the tree or post the camera will be on. For instance, an 18" zip tie will not work on a 20" tree.

Well... I never thought of that.

Kidding haha. Think I will need to try it out on a cam I don't move much!

I gave up on Python locks on cameras. They take roughly 15 seconds to cut through with a decent pair of side cutters. After losing a few stands that were locked on with these locks I just called it quits. Not worth the money IMO.

As for straps, I gave up on those as well. I took every strap off every camera I have. No only are they a PITA to use and make the camera easier to spot, they stink! In a lot of my 2 camera setups I had pictures of deer coming up and sniffing the straps of my cameras from behind the tree. Nothing's going to hold more scent in it than a cloth strap so mine went in the trash.

Now I exclusively use Stic-N-Pic mounts or other various screw-in type mounts (including the homemade ones) to mount my cameras. No more worrying about finding a tree in the right spot or a tree that's straight.

    Screw it. :tu:
