What do you guys use? Last year I would get in my stand and spray a little buck bomb doe P but I'm not a fan of the locking trigger. I'm thinking about the tinks aerosol but not 100% positive. I want so thing that will mask my down wind scent but will also have them hang around to allow more time for a shot. I'm new to the scent category. Just looking for some direction. A friend uses tinks bombs with buck nip but I've never heard of the buck nip made by wildlife research center. Sent from my arrow using Mathews
I try to stay as scent free as possible. In my mind most of these over the counter lures and cover scents will tell a MATURE buck there's a hunter in the woods. I could be wrong, but in my opinion id rather try to smell like nothing at all then smell like every other hunter who buys scents and covers from Walmart.
I use nothing but scent away until the rut starts showing a little then I might do a drag wrag that is about it jeffacarp is right as good as these new scents are they are still not el-natural big bucks know!
There is a oklahoma whitetail farm that sells doe and buck urine it's $15 per bottle $18 shipped I use that because I feel more confident that it won't scare the mature deer or alert them since it's taken straight from the source. I am not expert but it's what I have confidence in.
I spray down about 1/2 way to my stand. no attractants other than a mineral dumped on a rotted stump. I spend all summer walking the trails so my stench on them is nothing new.
I use buck bomb doe p i spray it along a travel corridore up to my stand and i use dominant buck in scrapes and then when the rut comes i use doe in estrous but always make sure to use scent control
Well Put. I`ve been trying now for a while to convince some on here to scrap the deer pee and try a pre-orbital type scent. Very little of this type of scent is used by hunters and if they could only understand how well it can work, the pee section of the scent industry would go bankrupt.
I've been bowhunting for 5 yrs, 2 deer so far, I've used different covers and attractants, I just decided this season to be "scent free", no weird covers or attractants. I got a small spray bottle of Code Blue Doe Pee, I'll spray the soles of my boots and walk in, that's all.
Interesting, thx for sharing. I'm done with pee everyone uses it and I never see anything with it. Been thinking for a while now about how it just tells deer where you are. Just looked into this for the first time. Just spread it around like on this video? http://m.gandermountain.com/modperl...373238373534&gclid=CLmsqLii1cgCFUyAaQodgL8Eog
So I went over to fleet farm and picked up some tinks spray cans. Last year I would just do a little spray just a little so thing to mask anything that my scent free shower, scent killer washed clothes and scent killer spray missed. Spray some doe p on the bottom of my boots and I'm set.. Was wondering what every one else is doing this season Sent from my arrow using Mathews
I use Evercalm herd scent on my boots and then spray myself down with scent killer spray. The only thing I do other than that is freshen up my mock scrapes from time to time but that is all. I have had good success with the Evercalm!
I will typically try to go as scent free as possible. I did buy a stick of Evercalm this year and will try it out. I also use a cedar cover scent on occasion.
I go scentless and don't bother with attraction scents..when I first started hunting I tired scent bombs, mock scrapes.. you name it I tried it never had much luck with it.. always had my best luck going scentless and letting the deer leave their own natural scents.. true believer in finding the doe early season and the buck will be there when they come in heat.
Im with Nate. I go scentless. The deer are already skiddish enough where I hunt. I don't want them to know I am there until they already feel the sting of my arrow.
I come and go on scents, but I've had strong success with mock scrapes. The big bucks started showing up on the cams at Kischel's mock scrapes back in July, and I was fortunate enough to harvest one of them. Now they're putting in their own scrapes around the ones I started. I do agree that they're probably wary of ol' Tink's No. 69, but it served me well in the '80s. Now I limit it to a little Code Blue buck urine in the pre-rut and local suppliers of doe estrous or Special Golden in rut. But I will say that Evercalm has been a game changer for me. Last year I shot a doe with a bow and she still didn't run off, complete pass-through. Another late season mature doe I was going to let pass and she just wouldn't leave, came within 10 years, so i decided I needed more sausage. I had a very large buck follow my Evercalm trail right up to the tree while it was still dark. All I could see was his (huge) outline, he got to the tree, stopped, looked up, then bolted, so it probably hurt more than helped here. And the large buck I took this year and his buddy stayed longer than they might've, and Evercalm may have played a role. What Evercalm seems to do is make them hang around your stand more, especially does and young bucks, but big bucks, too. Even if they're wary, they'll stay around longer with Evercalm on trees and boots, at least in my experience. I imagine they'll catch on to it, but it's new to them where I currently hunt.
I think I'm going to try Marlboro as a cover scent this year. My dad shot a lot of big bucks while smoking and I got busted being scent free as possible. LOL
I'll spray down with some dead down wind but I am not into using scents or attractants otherwise. This year I started using EverCalm mainly because the concept behind it intrigued me. I feel it does something after last weekend when I had a doe bust me in the tree when I felt it was just a bit too dark to shoot. She came straight to me, stopped at 15 yards, facing me. I just stood still, watching her when all of a sudden she popped her head up. All I can guess is she caught my outline in the tree and she knew it wasn't normal. Anyways, she didn't get totally spooked at any time. After she stared me down for a bit, she trotted away. I could barely make her out about 50 yards from me, where she stayed for a good 10 minutes or more, blowing and stomping every once in a while before I could hear her move on, allowing me to finally get out of my stand.
