So you all know that I own my own hunting property and live on it. All this talk on here about public hunting got me currious about where the closest public land is from my house. I found it. I passed by this parking lot all last season seeing that I always saw one or two trucks parked in early morning or late afternoon. I figured it was a hunting lease. Well come to find out, it is public land that doesn't get much hunting activity at all and even less durring Bow season.

It is only about 8 miles from my house.

I am thinking about doing a few (meaning 4 or 5) durring bow season thinking it may help me for rut as far as keeping down hunting pressure on my own little honey hole. I don't have a ton of time to do scouting. I do have a couple starting points in mind from a topo I found. If you guys see somewhere else I should start please let me know. I have the strating point circled and I may look into hunting the edge of the swamp area also.

Do you guys think this is a good idea and if you had a set up similar to what I do and a driving distance of only 8 miles would you do a few hunts on public land?

I would excluded any areas that are being hunted by others. I would check out the swamp for trails leading to bedding there. Check for big tracks and rubs (last years). It looks like there is some crops there as well. I would glass those.

I would check out the fingers and the swamps knowing it don't have much bow pressure I'd have a few stands located just to take advantage of it

    1) Is that the only parking lot? Would your wife be wiling
    2) Do you have a topo map?
    3) Have you driven around the fields surrounding the property at night to see how the deer are located/travelling?
