Am I the only person bothered by the fact that the majority of country stars don't write their own songs? I just feel like I'm being duped when I hear a tune I really like, then find out the singer didn't write it or really do anything except sing. I know this is commonplace in pop music as well, but I don't really listen to that so I don't care. I look at guys like Aldean, Shelton, Bryan and others who are immensely successful and popular right now and for the most part none of them wrote the songs they're famous for. All they had to do was sing, look cool, and put on a good show. It bugs me even more when I find out the original songwriter actually recorded the song, released it and it didn't hit. So then years later the "star" comes along, covers it, and everyone loves it. Now granted, the songwriter is making some jack on the deal, but it still just seems lame. To me it's the equivalent of a celebrity hunter going on a guided hunt where someone else did all the work, then they shoot the deer and claim all the credit as being a great hunter. In conclusion - I would sell out and sing other people's songs if someone was paying me a ton of money as well. But since I'm not, I'll just complain about it on the Internet. That's the American way.
That's the way it's been as far back as I can remember. I remember being stunned when I found out that Willie Nelson wrote Patsy Cline's hit song "Crazy".
Yep........to be honest I haven't heard anything released that I really liked since the last Jamie Johnson album. To me it all mostly sounds like pop music with a little twang added to it.
Have you ever heard Kris Kristofferson sing? It is not something I want to hear... really don't. But then again country isn't what it used to be with the likes of Taylor Not-So-Swift.
So do you look at beautiful models in a similar way? The real talent is the makeup artists. Most models are average at best before made up. I do understand where you are coming from though. Guess that means you really love Taylor Swift huh? LOL Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
It bothers me a little but some songs sound better by other artists. Aldean pretty much owes Brantley Gilbert his life for all the songs he takes from him.
What was said about Sarah Palin... put lipstick on a pig? Well my 15 year old likes her anyway. He rolls his eyes when I play Haggard... oh to be young and dorky.
Yes this bothers me a ton about country music. I grew up listening to country and around middle school I got big into rap (grew up close to the city, dont hate me guy haha). I still listen to country but recently it was brought to my attention about the not writing thing as well and I lost most respect for the music. Sure it sounds nice, and having a good voice and playing instruments takes talent, I feel the true artist is missing in the song and I dont like that. The biggest thing I like about rap is they write their own music and the lyrics tend to be so complex, filled with similes and metaphors that country doesnt have in the first place. The lyrics in country are not to hard to write in the first place then to find out the "artist" didnt even write it is such a let down.
Do you only watch movies written by the lead actor? I love music but I don't think I've ever wondered who wrote a song that I liked.
Love? No. Respect? Absolutely. There are few musicians who have acheived her level of success in this world. Even fewer who have actually written their own songs and music. That girl's got talent.
I may have mentioned once or twice that I'm not a country music fan, but it is my understanding that this young lady writes her own songs, plays her own music, and sings her own songs. Why do so many people hate her? Are people that can't play an instrument or write their own songs more popular in country music? Is it better if you can't actually sing, but have good twang? I ask because I honestly don't know. The way people talk about her you would swear she's in Nickelback.
Is this just a country music thing? I kind of thought it happened across most pop and rock too. BTW, JZ.. The last couple of KY/IN bowfishing tournys I went to, we use my friend's truck and boat. Since it's his truck, he gets to pick the music. He plays the freakin' Nickelback station on pandora. (five hours one way!!!! aaggghhh!!!) I think only you hate that group more than I do. It's torture. THey must write their own music because it all sucks.
Agreed with regard to Taylot (although I don't personally like her music, she has my respect). I don't care as much about the lack of writing. These artists are making millions, living in multimillion dollar mansions (or in the case of many country artists - ranches). Historically speaking, country music has been focused around the average, blue-collar, American. People like relating to the music, the lyrics, and the portrayed lifestyle, and I truly believe, many forget about the fact that these singers are so far removed from the everyday "hardships" they sing about. An artist sings about losing a job, working three jobs, working 16hrs on the farm, etc., when in reality, they're living lifestyles none of us could dream There's a disconnect regardless of whether he/she wrote it or not. Heck, Taylor swift just bought a $5 million dollar home, and still sings songs that sound like she's still in high school. I know Carrie Underwood came out recently in an interview and admitted to no longer writing her own songs since she feels that she's not being honest trying to portray a lifestyle that is still very "normal," and therefore it's not as easy to relate to the audience. Who knows? Is it hunting season, yet?
That's easy. She's pretty, intelligent, talented, successful, and rich. What's not to hate? That's enough to make a lot of people in this mixed up world hate anyone. She must be a 1% type, right?
I may hate Nickelback more than any other band on this planet, but I will say I respect Chad Kroeger for being a great songwriter. Granted, he writes the same songs with the same music over and over again, but people are dumb enough to love it. It may be horrible sounding to my ears, but he's made millions doing it. And he's written songs for quite a few other people as well including Chris Daughtry, Tim McGraw and now his fiance Avril Lavigne. He sucks, but he's got more money than I do so good for him.
