The difference is a desire to help people like yourself, or the desire to help people who are NOT like you. Jesus, from what Ive read, was a champion of the poor, the sick, the invalid, lepers, prostitutes, and every form of low-life. He looked down on those with wealth and power. He would have embraced a woman seeking an abortion, not stoned her to death. Many people confuse Jesus' teachings with the Old Testament. Many people want "wrath of god" Jesus, but that never really existed.
Agreed. Though, after talking with Jesus, she'd most likely no longer want an abortion. Jesus was never about anything political (give to Ceasar what is his). Infact, I believe that's what got many people, even some of his followers upset with him. He was not the political messiah that they were hoping for. I think that's why Judas betrayed him. They wanted an overthrow of what they saw as an occupying Roman force. Jesus came to overthrow our hearts.
No I dont think Jesus was anything political either, but technically, being liberal =/= democrat. Even the meaning of liberal changes with time.
How about let me have my money and let me decide who I want to help. This government taxation crap is unreal. My wife and I are both public servants so our salaries are average. I try to work an extra 30 hours or so a month to make extra money but get taxed like hell when I make a little extra money. It is crazy how people who own homes and pay lights out taxes to keep society from crumbling keep having to give over and over and over......
I fear the day I join the civilian population. Right now I dont pay state taxes and don't get taxed on my full amount and don't pay for insurance. It is going to suck when I move to the civilian side and see my money get taxed like crazy, my friend makes 250k in NY after taxes. The amount she pays in taxes is more than what 2 average income households pay in the US. Taxes definitely need to come down and we need to start cutting down on alot of these useless programs. But no politician is willing to do that.
I think Jesus was saying worry about your own walk and don't waste your time on earth judging others. We all get wrapped up in correcting others and are far to forgiving of our own faults. In his time on earth being a rebel may have labeled him better.
I had a after thought here, liberal groups tend to get bashed by the media and religious groups for the gay marriage and pro choice issues what if they are trying to flip some of these people over to their side? I can just picture Jesus doing a facepalm over American Politics right now.
Now I've seen everything. a thread that actually has people thinking and arguing about which political party The Lord would favor.
