So, last year I had a "devil horned" spike show up a lot on camera. He was always at this one location. I got this picture on the latest camera pull the other day. The main beams look very similar to his structure last year. How do you guys keep track of your young ones especially spikes from year to year? I'm thinking it's him, what do you guys think?
looks like it could be same buck. here in PA the spike is likely a yearling, and they don’t usually get as big as the buck on the right when they’re 2.5 yrs but it’s possible if nutrition improves.
Just really didn't know what to expect from growth year to year with them. This is the second year on a protein source that we have introduced. I'd like to say it is him, so hopefully in a few years I can develop a history with this buck. It would be cool to say at least.
When one has 10 to 15 Bucks in the area and there is a special marking on a certain deer I see no way of know one from the other. I had a young one with one side missing early this summer. 3 points on what he had. That one can be identified with no question, but haven't seen him since.
i find it hard to tell them apart until about 3.5 when there characteristics start showing more unless they have a clip ear or blind eye.
easiest way to keep track of your spikes is to shoot them... other than that i dont even try to track a deer until he has a characteristic that makes him easy to identify, split brow, drop, nontail etc yes we have a deer with no tail
Hard to tell bucks apart until they are a little older but it certainly looks like it could be the same buck.
