So I was driving through a small town in Illinois yesterday and noticed they had a taxidermist in town. I am always curious about what type of work they do and their pricing. I was astonished when I asked how much some of their mounts were.

    750.00 for a shoulder mount
    600.00 for a pheasant
    nearly 1000 for a raccoon (yes I said 1000)

What kind of prices do you find in your area??

I use a guy in Jacksonville, $425 or maybe $475 I think is what I paid last year. Gave it to him 2nd week of Novemner and got it back I think in Feb or March. Another well respected guy there but his turnaround is 2 years I believe, but his work is supposed to be top notch.

    Shoulder mounts here average $400-500

I'm not sure about pheasants, raccoons, etc

The good ones around me are in the $500-$650 range, bad ones get as low as $250...there is a middle ground guy in the $350-$400 range.

I'd say avg is probably $500 for a good job. Local to me some guys are less. One guy a couple hours from me charges $950, but he's world class (and has more work than all the starving guys charging $400)

Yeah CLS, my dad has taken a couple bucks to a guy that lives outside of Jacksonville off the beaten path. I know there is a guy in Franklin that does good work but I think he is pretty pricey.

I took both a buck and a pheasant to a guy in Mclean and from what I can tell he does outstanding work. $400.00 for the deer and like $230.00 for the pheasant!

The guy off the beaten path is probably the guy I use, Fred Stockton. The guy you are referring to in Franklin is also the one I was talking about with a 2 year turn around, pretty sure his name is Chuck Watson. Supposed to be the best of the best around here but haven't heard of recent pricing

Yep Fred was his name! He is doing a European mount for my mom's buck that she shot this year.

And if I remember correctly he was in the $600 neighborhood back in 2008 when I was looking for someone to do my buck that year. That was a little expensive for my taste at the time.

My normal guy raised his prices to $475 for a shoulder mount, I wasn't going to get a buck I shot this year mounted, but my buddy uses a lady who was running a special for $300, $150 down with a turn around time of 6-8 months! After checking out her work she does outstanding work so I said what the hell!
