So I've only just started compound and currently wear an armguard. I was advised to by the guy in the shop incase I end up slapping my forearm with the string. Personally I don't know if the string is hitting the guard as I shoot with a bend in my arm. What is the perfect technique?

Notice how all of them are straight but not locked. Straight or bent really doesn't cause hitting the arm. It is how the forearm, not elbow is rotated. This kinda explains why. http://youtu.be/hNenHKKSKZI Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
In that clip he shows the hand off the face. You will need to adjust so that you will anchor on your face. He does believe that most are shooting too short of a draw length today. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
The last guy pictured has a 31" draw and is only 6'1" if my memory is correct. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
These are some more detailed videos. Just a few to get you started. http://youtu.be/EpBPgPyiYEA http://youtu.be/rNGJo77OAs8 http://youtu.be/d5BYtDLFcKM http://youtu.be/rV2SP7PkpME http://youtu.be/d5BYtDLFcKM Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Also you have to take I to account wing span. I am only 6' but have a wing span of someone who is 6'6" so my draw length is about 31". So it boils down to more then just a formula. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There really is no right or wrong way, plenty of great straight and bent arm shooters. Find a comfortable and repeatable shooting technique and you will be a good shooter.
It's true that height has little to do with draw length. That's why I mentioned dave cousins height in relation to his draw length. Shoulder width plays a big role. I don't believe in formulas or calculations to figure draw length. That is done with form, pin float and results. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
That first video (haven't watched the rest) of Larry Wise is dead accurate. He doesn't really tell you what exactly to do with your front hand (that's making the stop sign). It's too difficult for me to explain properly how to put your front hand on the bow. But this is a major deal. It's easiest to say if you're finding yourself "gripping" the handle of the bow tightly, you're doing it wrong. You want to put your hand while stretched out on approx a 45 degree angle and find that boney spot of your thumb, that's where the handle will go. I don't have a video to explain, maybe someone else will add something. I know it's not a great explanation, suffice to say....If you're actually holding and gripping tightly the bow with your front hand, you're doing it wrong.
