We considered it and finally decided against it. It was a difficult decision to be honest. On one hand you want to do everything you can to protect your children. On the other hand where do you draw the line spending a lot of money on something you very likely won't need? Something else to consider is if you plan on having more children. If I recall correctly, many times it is not the person's own stored blood bank that helps them but rather of a sibling. To me it all came down to the odds mostly being money spend vs. risk. If you take the emotional aspect out of it and look at it logically it is something that does not give you a very good return percentage wise. Having said that, I could completely see why parents have it done. Could we regret it someday? Perhaps. Do I regret the decision almost 6 years later? Nope. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket I would rather put the money into a college investment. You are much more likely to positivity impact your child's life that way IMO.
We did not think it was worth the expense of banking it, but we did donate it for research. I am personally not in favor of destroying embryos, etc. for stem cell research. Chord blood is a rich source of stem cells, which can be harvested for research without destroying a human life.
