My old teacher is wanting to come up to my place to go coon hunting tomorrow night. He comes up often but it's usually on a saturday night. Most of the time, we tree right around my treestand. Im planning on goin hunting saturday morning and I'm wandering if the deer will notice or if they won't care. I'm also wandering if they'll pick up our sent or the dogs scent and stay away.

Personally, I wouldn't do it because of the scent you'll lay down. Have you ever seen how a deer reacts when it crosses your path? It usually goes the other way. Then again, it is that time of year where a buck doesn't always obey what his nose is telling him.

I coon hunted from the time I was 5 till the time I was 16. I can't tell you the times my dogs have ran right past a bedded deer and the deer didn't even get up and move. I firmly believe deer make a distinction of daylight danger and night time danger. If your going to just do one drop and one tree in that area then I don't see much of a problem. Would I personally do it? Not a chance.;)

I've been coon hunting since I was old enough to walk. When I was younger, I remember being at the farm the day before our gun opener, and after we hung our stands, the group of guys that were there would get the hounds and head for a quick hunt.

There were several times we treed within sight of a stand that produced a deer the following morning.

However, like 2 Lunger said, I wouldn't do it. Anymore I wait until December to start running dogs, and very rarely do it on ground that I also deer hunt.
