Why does the NBA suck? My idea (which will never happen for money reasons) is to have less teams in the NBA. There's too many players spread too thin across the league. Not enough "superstars" on the same team. Yeah there are a few teams that have a couple all stars together but in general it's watered down. What do some of these fans pay to see on some of these teams in the league. Some rosters are almost like a college all star team. Not enough big name players on the same team. Baseball you have a team with Jeter, a-rod, rivera, texiera, cano, sabathia, burnett, etc... (dont' hate this thread aint about that lol) Or the Mets with Beltran, Wright, Santana, Reyes, Delgado, Bay, etc... Football there are teams all over the league loaded with talent and pro bowlers! What is it with the NBA? Just seems that every team has one "stud" (maybe) and a bunch of role players. A lot of teams have nobody. I say get rid of about 6 teams and squeeze the talent together. More competitive, better for the fans, better for ratings?
Here's my list of what's wrong with the NBA (and why I won't watch it.....unless I'm there). 1. Officiating is horrible. What these guys look past is in direct conflict with the rules of the game. How many steps do you get? Call it! Does blood have to be drawn, for a foul to be called? Does a mild hack on Kobe carry more weight than a mild hack on Josh McRoberts? 2. S L O W ! 3. So....you're gonna dictate what defense my team can employ? Really? 4. When a player making $25M/yr has more influence on the team than the coach.........you're starting at square -1. 5. No drug testing. Can't help it. Human nature leads me to disrespect the entire league, for letting the inmates run the asylum. Combine all these things.......and I'd rather watch an 8th grade junior high team play. At least I'm watching a game I'm familiar with.
I would say that there are more MLB teams that don't have any potential all-stars than the NBA. And the NBA really doesn't suck anymore. It did at the end of the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s, but now it's quite entertaining.
Can't this be said for every professional league? Any slower than football and baseball? You complain about it being slow, but now you want them to be able to play zone defense? Again, can't this be said about every professional league? The NBA drug tests....
What? What game would you want to watch aside from maybe the Cavs/Lakers/Celtics (even those are "iffy" as far as entertaining.
I agree. When Jordan left..the NBA was lost. I agree with Jeff about the officiating. Its terrible. Im a Cavs fan, and Lebron can get any foul he wants. Mike Brown is just his pawn too. What i find weird is this, in baseball and hockey, you can punch each other. In the NBA and in the NFL, you punch, your gone for at least 1/4 of the season and fined massively. Kinda off topic, but it would make the game more enjoyable if players werent getting ejected for simply mouthing off at each other.
It's all dependent on how watered-down you want to look at the talent pool. How many HS players come out and compete (or CAN) at the top level of their sport? How many college players? It's hard to compare the two sports. Who's been to a minor league baseball game? Who'd pay the gas $$ to go see an NBA instructional league game? John Wall can will go to the NBA and be a contributor, immediately. Immediately. The same guy (baeball player) coming out of JC as a freshman may NEVER be.
Sure there are some crappy teams, but would you watch an Orioles vs The National game? All the points you are making about the NBA can be said about the MLB as well.
Actually that's the one thing that jumped out at me too. The pace of an NBA is like watching moss grow. I think the problem is when it's compared to the emotion and speed of college. Seems at the "next level" should be a lot faster and intense. But it's just the opposite. And baseball is baseball. Not supposed to be fast. Played pretty much the same pace at any level. Football? What's not fast and intense about football? I dont' get that one.
Anyone who thinks baseball is slow.......doesn't understand the game, past the HS level. There's a series of defensive "plays" on.................EVERY SINGLE PITCH. Unless you knew what you were looking at, you'd never know it. And no....no player is bigger than the game of baseball. I can't say the same about NBA basketball. Nope. The ONLY correlation is the "actual" strike zone v. the published. Sure. But I wouldn't walk across the street to see Kobe v. Lebron. I WOULD pay to see WFU play GA, though.
I hate baseball, and don't follow it. But i here more about Alex Rodriguez then i do about anything else related to baseball, sans steroids.
I read or heard something the other day that there are actually on average only 11 minutes of actual football played during an NFL game. Most NFL games run about 3 hours. I would say that's pretty slow.
When you were watching the playoff games last weekend were you sitting there saying "man this is slow and boring"?
Can you explain to me the nuances I don't understand about the game of basketball? I'm all ears (seriously).
I see a "switch" being thrown when basketball players AND football players start receiving a paycheck to play the games. That's why I loathe both (professional) games.
what would that accomplish? The only reason i watch anymore is so i can watch little guys like Nate Robinson and Delonte West throw down on 7 footers :D Football i love. NBA i just watch for entertainment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j01q8A6pqps
