Just an update on the pooch. I picked him up friday afternoon, brough him home and gave him a bath. His name is Buddy and what an awesome dog he is. GREAT with my kids already. I keep trying to bring him inside to begin transitioning to an inside dog but he hates it. After 5 min he wants back out to his kennel. So he slept outside in his dog house all night. Got up at 430 and went hunting with the bow. Came home about 1pm and loaded the pooch in the jeep. Saturday was opening day for grouse here in PA so I decided to try my hand at hunting behind my own dog for the first time ever. Picked up my father and headed to some random state game land. Half way there he nearly broke the plastic pet taxi in half because he was so excited he was baying on the ride. Got there, got our vests on, unloaded the dog and we were off. I was a little nervous, but buddy took care of that for me right away. If he started to get out of range a quick whistle would slow him. 15 min into our hunt, buddy is digging like a mad man at a brush pile and I told my dad to get ready and sure enough out flushes a grouse. Dad dropped him and buddy ran to the grouse and sat there. He will not retrieve yet (maybe never) but he sat by every grouse we shot until we picked it up and gave him some good dog love. After 3 hours, we had both shot our 2 bird limit and I couldnt be happier. Buddy the bird hunting beagle is a success. He also circled a few rabbit during the day (which we didnt shoot, season is closed) which im glad about as well.
