As stupid as the world is and continues to be, I am looking for a conceal and carry pistol. I do a ton of shed hunting across multiple states every year and about 99% of it on public. Very rarely do I have anyone with me so I want to be prepared for the 2 and 4 legged creatures a guy might run into. That being said, let's hear some recommendations for a carry pistol that I can bring while shed hunting and still be comfortable. I'm pretty sure I want to carry on my chest while shed hunting so looking for recommendations on that style of holster as well. Want it to be a 9mm. I'll also take recommendations for small gun lock boxes for next to my bed. 2 of the guns I have been researching are S&W M&P9 and Sig P365. I'm also pretty familiar with the Ruger SR9 and that seems to be a pretty decent gun. Thanks!
Sig 365 macro. I have the Springfield hellcat and like it, but...wish I'd gone sig. You get same capacity in the macro as a glock 19, but smaller frame. If you aren't too worried about concealment, go big as you want. Full size is usually better performing. You're asking a loaded question, so brace yourself for incoming. Lol.
Just curious. If you're on public (hunting) land, why not carry open (i.e. why bother to conceal)? I understand the need for conceal, but most of the reasons in my mind, well you're truly in public...
with the options you listed, id go with the sig. But i carry a Glock19 and have no issues concealing it.
I use a Bulldog retention paddle holster for my Taurus when walking/scouting ... but for CC, I use a Alien Gear SOB holster.. conceals perfectly in the small of my back/right side .. i dont care for inside waist band/front ...
I open carry every time I hunt public land. Too much potential to run into meth heads in some spots. I have a Ruger LC9 that I inherited from my FIL. It will be going up for sale after the end of the current bow season. I carry that because my wife prefers the S & W Shield 9mm to shoot so it stays home with her. I really like S & W, so I will probably be turning the Ruger into an S & W .40 or 45 once I sell it. I would like have something with a little more punch for when I hunt in grizzly country.
Call me crazy but if I am out during the winter I have layers and bibs on, my judge fits right in the pocket of my bibs. More accessible than a holster.
^exactly what was in the back of my mind. I ran a gunfighters kenai shoulder holster and a g40 while out elk hunting this year. No its not concealed, it is readilly accessible (even with a backpack), lightweight, 10mm. The longer barrel helped accuracy and had manageable recoil even with hot & heavy hard cast loads. This before we’re back hunting in areas with grizzlies. Absolutely no complaints, though not what the OP was asking. But that front and center holster did get some double takes.
I should have added that I open carry with a cheap molle leg drop platform from amazon. I think it cost me $25. If I was going to CC, I would spend the money on something nicer.
JM4 tactical has some very cool and comfy magnetic holsters for concealed carry. Buddy of mine has one and I'm getting one after all this holiday spending bs is over. Spending money like a drunk oil baron in Vegas. Smdh
Never gave it a thought actually. I just thought for the comfort aspect of walking miles, on my chest might be the most comfortable. Honestly, I don't know MN rules for open carry yet either, need to take my carry class this winter. Also shed hunt IA, NE, SD and plan to add more states to the list so I figured concealed carry was legal everywhere.
When I shed hunt I wear as few of layers as possible. Even if it's 0 degrees I only wear fleece lined pants, sweatshirt and a vest.
I CC my Sig 365 in Alien Gear. Spare mag goes in stealth gear holder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MN permit is a "permit to carry", not a "concealed carry", and as long as you have your permit to carry, you can carry while archery hunting.
For a higher capacity small 9 the hellcat is pretty nice. I see the sight picture very well with that bright front sight.
