Depends on what you're doing with it. My Dell died almost completely around Xmas time. I had it since 2005. I guess it lived a good life. My son is a computer geek in a way. He's a ticket puncher at Microsoft. He analyzed my computer needs and bought me a new laptop for Xmas. The nice thing is I could have gotten it with windows 7 or 8... my choice. I decided to go with windows 8..... the verdict is still out on that choice... but I get by. He bought me an Acer. It really works great. I didn't need a lot of fancy crap... but this thing flies for $600 laptop.

Personally I like the sound of the 3rd one the best. It would be the one I would want to check out first. Have you found any consumer reviews on them?

 

IF....IF... you prefer old crap.... you are not a good candidate for windows 8.. It's a whole new learning curve.

 

Yes, they were all pretty good. All three very similar. Can you give me some feed back on your choice? These are all three in stock at my local staples and none of them are very spendy.

I really do not know what any of that means.. Processors, graphic cards etc etc.

Whats your price range? And yea a good thing to look into is why your laptops died so that you won't have to ask every 6 months. Mine was $1000, did it I need it? Sure to play the one game Starcraft which I now quit. Otherwise a solid $600 computer should hold you through. If you give me a price then ill look some up on amazon and tigerdirect (the 2 best for laptops in my opinion).

Also why do you need a laptop? Why not buy a desktop?

Windows 8 does not have the windows star menu (lower left).

 

1st and 3rd (2nd is an older processor...not bad, just newer chips often are more energy efficient, which translates to less battery drain).

Both 1 and 2 seem to be more than sufficient on memory and HD space. The i3 in the third choice is going to outperform the A6 in the first choice. Graphics are moot since this will just be used for basic kid games (I'm assuming) and web browsing.

 

Looks like I was beaten to the punch. The post above pretty well covers the processor and graphics. On a personal level another thing that would draw me to the 3rd is I would have no desire for the larger screen of the 1st option. 15" is plenty in a laptop. I actually went with a 13" for my laptop for school and it is perfect for what I need it to do.

The last two wren't exactly cheap, but weren't high dollar either, both were around $700. I just don't want to pay that right now the way they (and a lot of other things around the house) are getting "TAKEN DOWN" by the little guy. This next one if it lasts long enough will become my son's computer and I will buy another for the wife and I that is off limits to him.

The Toshiba, I broke in a moment of elevated temper, for it would not work correctly when I was in a hurry to leave and needed some info off of it (bought it about 3.5 years ago) maybe 6 months ago. It's life may have been cut short, but the years it did live, it was responsible for some pretty awesome forum posts and a lot of poor grammar and spelling. R.I.P. Toshiba.

The latest was an HP. I have a 3.5 year old who loves super heroes. He plays pretty rough and it got caught in the crossfire.

 

Just got an HP Pavilion g6 with a core i3 processor, 4gb ram, 750gb had drive after rebates $429 at PC Richards and son.

 

Let me add that the Windows 8 no-start menu is a non-issue as there are several of ways to restore it in Windows 8.

 

I went with number 1, Wife and I decided on the larger screen for photo and video viewing. It seems pretty nice so far. It was $715 out the door with a protection plan that if I do not use gets returned to me in full via Staples gift cards ($215) after two years. I also have some rebates to fill out online through Toshiba but I do not recall how much they were for.
