For years I purchased anti virus software and renewed and renewed.... And, yes they kept me safe. My son works for Microsoft in Seattle He worked for them for 5 or 6 years and left togo to work for McKenzie. Then he went to work for a world wide fiber optic backbone network in Denver..... and now he's back again with Microsoft. As he says, he loves the Mother Ship. LOL Anyway, while he was home last year he was cleaning up my computers, adding some stuff and just tinkering. He switched me over to the free Download of Microsofts Security Essentials. A year later, no problems and it does what it needs to do without my help. Free and secure..... that's all I need. I used to spend money for the same thing except the free part. Microsoft Security Essentials. It's all my son uses and he's Mr Microsoft.

We use avast. They have one that you can pay for but, we use the free version. Been using it for 2 years on 4 computers with no problems.

I love my Kaspersky, and have used Avast (free version) before with no problems.

That's what I have on my puter too... seems great! And that glowing recommendation from your son makes my decision a smart one.

I use MSE on nearly all my computers. The only two I don't are my primary desktop (Norton, but switching back to MSE) and my netbook (Linux).

It's more about the user than it is about the OS. MacOS still has vulnerabilities.

We've been using that for a long time now. It's a great program and it's FREE. It also downloads new virus definitions on a daily basis.
