Hello. My name is Michael. Aka speedy. Never bow hunted or really shot a bow (other than my junior bow as a kid) I just picked up a Matthews Switchback with 70lbs and 28" draw. Got it from my local pawn shop. (Where I buy all my outdoor equipment it seems) Haven't looked up much the details on regulations yet but for the next year be training. (I need it) I'll post a pick soon Sent from my SCH-I415 using Tapatalk

Taking it to the tech next Saturday. Get it reworked to my liking. I shot my brother inlaws bow and liked his setup much better than my own. His has the loop behind the arrow and that feels so much better than my setup. Mine just had the collar things and a thicker part of string. With 28" and 70lbs. What length and grain arrow should I be using. For target now but with hopes of being ready for elk. Or should I post up in the tech section Sent from my SCH-I415 using Tapatalk
Your arrows need to be cut RIGHT! So go to the shop near you and see if they can measure you at full draw to determine your specific arrow length. Safe arrows are No Joke. Use and inspect your arrows. I shoot and like the 9.5 GPI Easton Axis 340s and they are common, good arrows. I intend to switch to FMJ arrows at some point. Have a Bow Tech inspect your rig top to bottom and ensure that it is GTG. Delete the brass and insert a D Loop. Better yet dump the string and get it replaced entirely. .......... That's all I got for now man ---> Best a Luck! Get your rig inspected first and Get Shootin'
Welcome to the site. I would strongly recommend you reduce the poundage on your bow and focus on your shooting mechanics. It is much easier to get your form right when shooting lower poundage and increase as you go along. By the way, the loop behind the arrow is called a "D loop" and the collars are called "knock points". :D Welcome to the world of archery. There is a ton to learn but this site has a ton of good information. Ask lots of questions and listen with an open mind to those with lots of experience.
Ok, got my bow setup with "winkie face" loop... Asked the guy about poundage but he said my bow is only adjustable with a new cam wheel. I have gotten used to pulling it and according to you tube my method is acceptable. After the main pull it sits in the pulled position quite easily. I got a new target as my arrows were going right through the one I was given. The tech got very jealous when I told him I only paid $100 for it and besides a broken balancer up front it was in perfect condition. Sent from my SCH-I415 using Tapatalk
Got the new target setup and got some arrows down range. Good grouping but to the right. Range is better than I expected. Sent from my SCH-I415 using Tapatalk
Backed it off ten pounds. Much more pleasant to stick arrows in foam now. And they don't occasionally go through now. Sent from my SCH-I415 using Tapatalk
Well here is my baby. I'm finally getting comfortable with not gripping the bow as I aim and release the arrow. At twenty yards I'm shooting about a three inch pattern but that has been getting tighter every time I go out. Have to add this has been more satisfying than any rifle or pistol shooting I've done.
