I'm going to start shooting in some 3D tournaments this summer and was wondering what the beat sight would be for competition. I would like to use it for hunting also. What do you guys think?
That is going to be determined by what series you choose to shoot, and what class. IBO and ASA are the two biggest thst I know of. NFAA has a 3D series as well, I don't know how widespread it is though. ASA is the biggie down here. I shoot "bow novice" class. It is basically the same as bowhunter class, with no sight lens allowed. I shoot pins and my stabilizer must be under 12", and there is a 280fps speed limit. Bow novice is all known yardage, out to 30, bowhunter is half known out to 40. Both are really competitive. You cannot use a slider or moving sight in either of these classes. The open classes allow the long stabilizers and scopes. There are known and unknown shooting distance classes. Moving sights are OK in these classes. I shoot a Spot Hogg Hogg-It. I use it for hunting and 3D, and when I step up a class, can add a lens to it. It is a good all around sight. If I was shooting open, I'd look at a Hogg Father or one maybe of the Sure Loc or Shibuya offerings (they are popular with the open class shooters around here), with a Swarovski or Zeiss scope.
