Well i went and shot my first competition last night with the Bow Madness. Did Fairly good got 258 out of 340. 3rd place only got 398 so i didnt do to bad. Not sure where i placed out of 25 or 30 people but i couldnt have been any worse off than like 5th or 6th place. The new range that the Huntington Archery Club has is sweet but only 20 yards for the maximum shot. Cant wait till the outdoor 3-D range opens in a month or so.
Shoot more would seam to be the obvious answer, but I would ask what is your set up. Alot of guys have 3-d rigs and only pull 55 lbs or so. I am far from a serious 3-d, spots shooter, but I know I would not shoot my hunting bow on 73lbs in a serious tourney.
Third place must have received first if he shot a 398 out of a possible 340. Did you mean 298? As mentioned, a lot of shooters drop their draw weights when shooting tournaments. It's totally up to you if you decide to do this. Are you shooting the tourneys for money or fun? Are you trying to hone your shooting skills with your hunting rig? If so, keep sending them down range. Your muscles will eventually keep pace. Don't over do it though. Fatigued muscles can create bad habits. Way to put it on the line!
Well i use my 74 pound hunting bow as i dont have the means to have a competition specific bow. I actually compete in a Bow Hunters Class. Yeah i meant 298, and im doing the shoots for fun and to hone my skills. That night was only the fourth or fifth time i have shot my new bow.
