I shoot a Mathews Switchback, axis arrows, rage 2 blade 100 gr. for several years now. Every deer that I have shot have been complete pass thru's. This off season I added a Dead End string stop and Monkey Tails. The 2 deer I shot this year no complete pass thru, any thoughts?
Um....no knowledge of every single impact/exit location...and no knowledge of if any ribs or bone have existed in any of these shots...and lack of knowledge of distance for every shot makes it impossible to state why or why not you did or did not get pass throughs on any shot
My guess would be different shot placement. You should only loose a couple feet per second with the monkey tails, and I don't think the string stop would change the feet per second. I also shoot 2 blade Rage. I've had complete pass through's, partial pass through's and no pass through's. All because of shot placement. All were kill shots none the less. I would say if you goal is complete pass through's, I'd honestly recommend switching to a fixed blade. Rage does some serious damage, but the larger the cutting surface, the more the loss of Kinetic energy as the blade penetrates.
Another thing to consider would be if you bow is still in tune. If not, then your arrow may not have hit in a way that the arrow could pass right through, instead the arrow may come in on a bit of an angle and deflect, which will also rob you of your KE and possibility of a clean pass through.
I was afraid of losing fps and energy with the monkey tails that's why I was getting partials this year, in the past busted thru ribs with no issues just seen a difference this year and thought maybe somebody had some experience in this.
took the monkey tails off, 3 does complete pass thru with different angles, and different distances, leaving the tails off!
Yeah, it was the monkey tails. I've got monkey tails on my bow and I've had six(6) pass throughs this year at different shot angles, different size deer at different distances. If I don't pass through the next 6 its not because the monkey tails.
