This is my Colt tactical .22 setup with the Truglo Red Dot 30MM with a 5 MOA reticle..I have to say I'm not impressed with red dot scopes and careful considerations, I'm taking the scope back and changing it to something more accurate than quick acquisition targeting. Any suggestions? Picture to follow...
A 5 moa scope is not a good one. 1 minute of angle at 100 meter's equal's ruffly 1 inch. So on a one minute gun, with a one minute scope in perfect conditions the gun will shoot 1 minute at best. So you allready have a 5 moa scope on a .22 I dont know how accurate the gun is but I would guess probally a 3 to 4 minute gun if not 5 or 6.
With open sights the accuracy is amazing at 150 yds 40 grain high velocity American Eagle solids is pretty much dead on. Shooting standing orange clays is a breeze. I just wanted to refine the ability of the rifle with a scope. The scope I'm considering is the CenterPoint Optics 3-9x32 Rifle Scope, Illuminated Mil-Dot Reticle, 1/4 MOA, 1 Tube, 3/8 Dovetail Rings. I find spending more than $70.00 bucks for a .22 caliber rifle scope impracticable.
The way we look at it for our personnel rifles, what ever the cost of the rifle was you spend at least half that on glass. 1/4moa scope doesnt mean it shoots 1/4 moa either, that just means the adjustments are 1/4 of a minute.
I guess I need to decide what type of shooting I plan to do overall. Small game & target shooting. Maybe I should also consider expanding the capabilities with this rifle.
If you want to expand the capabilities of the rifle ask yourself this. One does it have to be a semi automatic? A bolt action .22 is cheap and fun to shoot. It will help you master the basic's of shooting. Trigger squeeze, proper breathing, proper sight picture, and follow through. If you want a good small game and target shooting rifle that is not super expensive I would go with 22-250, .243, or .223, you get more power and don't run into the issue of wounding game as much as you may or may not with a .22. I am a big fan of remington, savage has came out with some pretty impressive rifles lately to and there acu-trigger is supposed to be amazing. You can get a remy 700 in any caliber you want pretty much for cheap, used even cheaper. http://www.basspro.com/Remington-Model-700-SPS--243-WIN-Youth-Rifle/product/10218089/139519 http://www.basspro.com/Remington-Model-700-SPS--223-REM-Rifle/product/10218081/60404 http://www.basspro.com/Remington-Model-700-SPS--22250-REM-Varmint-Rifle/product/10218335/124079 http://www.basspro.com/Remington-27...770-Rifle/Scope-Combo/product/10218379/160493 http://www.basspro.com/Remington-Model-700-SPS--270-WIN-Rifle/product/10218084/48057 Now mind you those are all "new" prices check out gun broker and you can get a really good deal. Bushnell came out with new scopes to Bushnell Elite and Bushnell Elite Tactical, great scopes at a vary good price. I got one on my remy 700, fixed 10 power with mil-dot reticle, mil-adjustment's for 200 buck's. That is a hard deal to beat for a good quality scope that will last. Not trying to sell you at all on what I use for now haha, just some pointer's. I dont know how you shoot or how much experience you do have. But starting with a bolt action will make you a better and more consistent shooter than starting with an ar. And getting the job with one well placed round and never having to send another round is a good feeling. Here is a picture of the last group I shot after I broke my rifle in. The 700 sps tactical with heavy barrel chambered in .308 is what I have now, they kinda through the trigger in sloppy and its not as crisp as it should be. I havnt adjusted it but this is a 5 shot group at 100 meter's. I consistently throw one round high and right out of every 5 due to my trigger. Best group I have shot is under 1 moa at 300 meter's which is amazing for any gun. But here is one at 100 with hornady tap ammo, you will see the high one. ( the rifle is completely stock to only thing on it is a 20 moa rail and the bushnell scope)
bohica's I have the Savage 110 30-06 with the BDA, and the Savage 270 as well as a Remington These weapons function flawlessly for me. I've matched them up with the Fusion 150gr ammo at a 100yds is vicious on deer and bear. Ive been able to make paper nicked holes and It's very darn impressive. I'm considering using my muzzle loader this hunting season. What I want to do is use my .22 for small game hunting and precision rabbit hunting in Mississippi along cotton fields. And this rifle has the accuracy to do the job and if I come across crows, or coyotes I believe this rifle will still perform flawlessly for a .22 caliber. I will consider stepping up on the scope I've seen a couple at $180.00. I'll look into it. Some of the rifle specs.. Barrel Length 16.2 in (412 mm) Barrel Twist 1 in 13-3/4 in Rifling Grooves 6 Rifling Length 13.78 in (350 mm)
One thing about fusion bullets if you hit a deer just behind the shoulder in the rib cage. The fusion will make a nice clean quarter size entry and exit wound. If you hit the animal in the shoulder, the bullet will obliterate it.
