Colorado elk

    I am very excited just got a phone call from my old man and he has invited me on an elk hunt in Gunison Colorado!!
    He said it is a rifle hunt but im going to take my bow as well and tips what size arrow or broadhead would be best i shoot a 2013 matthews zxt 70# 30" draw

    With that set up you should be fine with whatever your current arrow/broadhead combination is. I believe that you are required to have a minimum of 7/8" cutting width with a minimum of 2 blades and #35 draw. Unless you are hunting private land the elk will be very difficult to get close to during rifle season with a bow. I would suggest just taking you rifle and hunting that way. If you have never been elk hunting it is very difficult to get an animal. It took me a couple years to figure out that if you see a legal animal to shoot it because you may not see another the rest of the trip if you hunt public land. Get as far away from any road or ATV trail as you can, otherwise you will not see any elk.

    I'm going to be headed out to CO this Fall too! I'm going to be shooting CX Piledrivers tipped with NAP Hellrazors.

    One thing to note on BHs, in CO the blades have to be straight. So ones like the Crimson Talon are out.

    What unit do you plan on hunting this fall? I believe that I will be headed to 77.
