What did you not like about wildlife ecology and conservation? To me that sounds like something I would enjoy but then again there are very few jobs, and the salary is poor
while your last statement is correct about the jobs and salary, I will tell you this if you are an intelligent person within that field, you will go places I took 1 class (Forest Measurements) in college that was all Wildlife and Forestry majors. Most of them had all failed the class multiple times. They had no idea what I was taking the class as an elective. I ended making over 100% in the class and the professor begged me in his office to switch to Forestry No offense to the rednecks of the world, but most of them just aren't that smart. So if you are a smart kid, you could have a successful career in the field. I'd suggest getting your Masters though to help. Most jobs like seeing a Masters degree these days anyways.
I loved the sound of it and i figured it was exactly what i wanted to do. I got into it and it wasn't quite what i thought it was going to be. I didn't give it very long, only a year. To make any decent money you really should get a masters or dr degree. I didn't really want to do that so i decided to make the switch. Im not putting that major down and if you think its something you would like go for it and you may love it. You can always switch down the road.
This is very true! You will encounter a lot of hard classes that people have failed multiple times. It is a degree for someone who is very dedicated to their studies and is very smart. Thats just my opinion. After being in that major for a year i have a huge amount of respect for the people who have a career in that field because they know way more than most people think.
I am going to midlands tech and doing a nuclear program designed by South Carolina Electric and Gas to become an operator at the nuclear power plant right up the road.
I'm at NC State majoring in Wildlife Biology. I plan on getting at least a masters in it. I personally am pursuing my passion more so than money, I know if I work hard it will all work out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
North Carolina State University majoring in Criminology. Currently trying to line up a summer internship with the Marshals, DEA or ATF
My education pathway is a little different... just remember as Ty said, there may be more in store for you than what your degree is in. Enjoy what you do!
I am attending Worcester State University in Mass. My major is in criminal justice with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in Philosophy of law. Needless to say I am prepping for law school. I am a senior now and will be taking my LSAT in the spring. After that I will send out some law school apps to some schools around the country. Hopefully somewhere with big deer as well haha
I am in my 6th year. Finished up all courses last year, just paying full tuition to work 1,440 hours for free (quite the scheme they have going on)... Will be a licensed pharmacist by early June. Hoping to be completing a residency in Anchorage Alaska shortly there after. From there, I have no clue what/where my career will be taking me. I chose it because I wanted to work in healthcare, and I couldn't realistically commit to the time it takes to gain an MD.. You're looking at 11 years as a minimum out of high school before practicing. I'll be doing so in 6 with a doctorate in a slightly different field, with comparable starting pays (ignoring the specialists and obvious fact potential earnings are deservedly far higher with the MD route). My grandpa taught me at a young age... you can take two routes in life. Live to work, or work to live. I wanted no part of an outdoors career where earnings were low, hours were long, and my hobby became a job.
Going to Parkland college and getting a associates in fire service technology. I'm also working on becoming a EMT. I'm working at getting on a full-time department eventually. This winter I will be taking the Chicago test and hopefully some more soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Transferring from northern Illinois community college to either Southern Illinois university or whitewater, I've got an AS of science and was looking into the environment for a while too. I'm great in math and god awful in chemistry, so no more water resources for me. Still trying to figure out a good major Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have one more semester of knocking out core courses at a community college, after that I plan to transfer to a four year school for a degree in Forestry.
I'm a Ph.D. candidate in biology. (specializing in neuroembryology) I have two job offers if I finish in the Spring. If I don't finish, the job offers will expire. I love to hunt and fish and I also love research and teaching. The hunting and fishing, scouting, target practice and all, is a great escape and relaxation from the stresses of your regular work. I think a career in the woods might not be for everyone and might not be as much fun as you would first imagine. I read a post somewhere on a similar thread like this about this man who had dreamed of becoming a conservation officer and having as his job, roaming the woods. Well he made it and found that the busiest time of the year on his job was hunting season. He was spending most of his time checking other hunters and had little time to hunt himself. He wasn't especially happy with his dream job. This is off topic but I read a thread on another forum by a man whose wife really hated it when he would go hunting, even for just three or four days a year. So there are other things to think about too.
Find out what you love to do, what drives you, what you can do seven days a week (if needed) and then find a way to get paid for it, I graduate this year and intend to get a bachelors in fish and wildlife ecology at University of Florida, now considering similar wildlife degree at Lees Mcrae college because its near to where im living now. No girlfriend or major commitments to hold me back though so I can go anywhere
I see you North Carolina State University - Electrical Engineering Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
