Hi everyone! I am a sophomore in college and a physics major. This J-term I want to do a independent study that is all about the physics behind compound bows. I was thinking about talking about the sound of bows versus the speed to see if there is a linear relationship. I was also thinking about how the cold affects the sound. Another idea I have is to calculate how shooting from different heights and angles will affect the arrows impact. These are just a few of my ideas but I really want to be able to do this independent study so any other ideas would be awesome. So if you have any ideas post them please! Ill be sure to post my results if I end up getting to do this. Thanks everyone!
What about the energy difference between arrow spines at impact from 20 to 50 yards, or if there is any loss of energy upon impact with a mechanical broadhead versus a fixed blade. We have all seen different test of how different broadhead and arrow combinations will affect speed and penetration, but it would be cool to know if they can be measured to any level of consistency. Not sure if that is too far off the topic of compound bows but it is what i could think of. You could always see if you can get Mathews to donate a new no cam bow to you so you can test that. It never hurts to ask lol. -Andrew
