Hay All; I'm new to the forum looking for some suggestions. With the temps here in the single digits wind chills below 0.I have come to find that with all the layers to stay warm.I can no longer hit my anchor point nor line up my peep. What do most of you do.I thought of getting a second sight set up for cold weather.Or using a anchor sight. What do you think. Thanks
Hat and face mask in the way? I can shoot with a face mask on, but I gotta move any other clothing outta the way before I shoot. Same goes for trigger hand, thin glove only for the shot.
I have to pull my face mask down and take a glove off my release hand to take a shot so otherwise it all gets in the way and i have major problems i put it all back on right after the shot.
My biggest problem is my heavy winter jacket. When I pull back the shoulder bunches up pushing my bow string away from my natural anchor point. It is suppose to be 5 with wind chill of -15 tomorrow.I want to be out there because I know they will be moving.Guess I will just take the cross bow.Just prefer my compound.
Not that I would suggest you change this now but it may be something to consider for next season. I have my draw length set a little short for a few reasons but one of them is it puts slightly more bend in my bow arm so there's plenty of room for the string to clear the heavier layers. Thanks I was thinking about doing that for other reasons with my shoulder so if it helps bonus.I'm tagged out now got my doe today.so now its prep time for sept!!!!
I practice from an elevated "ladder stand" in my yard with my jacket, gloves, and mask on,...the same as you practice with your broadheads and not field tips,...but a tip if your jacket sleeve is loose and hitting your string,.....about a 1 foot section cut from a ladies panty hose "leg" with the ends cut will slide right over your favorite camo and not be too tight,...believe it or not, it works,..lol
Down is your friend. Merino base layer (fleece if its REALLY cold), down puffy jacket for insulation, and a thin windproof outer layer. MUCH warmer and less bulky than these huge bulky winter parkas sold in camo for gunhunting... Bowhunting is nearly impossible out of those.
