Anyone ever use the Code Blue Deer Scents? Decided to give them a try this year, and see if I have any luck with them.

I have used Code Blue for years. We hunt all public land, and I primarily use it during the shotgun hunt in Minnesota, which is during peak rut. I have had many deer, including a handful of nice mature 125"+ 8 pointers come right into me using a combination of Code Blue estrus doe scent and a "can" bleat. I think it's good stuff. I get it from a Farm and Fleet that keeps it in a refrigerator.

Honestly I don't know if it works or if the place I hunt just happens to be a really good spot - probably more of the latter. But I've never had a buck wind it and bolt. In fact, I've had mature buck come to a tree I've put it on and sniff it before.

I've used them, mainly the buck urine and Tarsal Gland gel in my mock scrapes and had great success with them, especially the Tarsal Gland. It just peaks the curiousity and interest of the deer in the area, both bucks and does.

So what do use in the Code Blue line? And how do you use it. Since I am a new code blue user, I am looking for all the tips I can get.

I used the Code Blue Grave Digger this year to start a few mock scrapes. I checked one of the cameras tonight, and it's getting worked by some small bucks at night. Haven't been to the others since I put it out.

When I use doe estrous, I prefer other brands. I hardly use scents anymore though.

    I use two products primarily:

    Double Drag:
    http://www.bowhunting.com/shopping/Products/Code-Blue-Double-Drag-System__1074.aspx

Watch for me to use this early rut (late oct/early nov) along field edges near scrapes and rubs. I have always had good luck with a drag (of any kind really) but last year I brought a nice 8 pointer to 5 steps from the stand using this method and product.

    Code Blue Estrus:
    http://www.bowhunting.com/shopping/Products/Code-Blue-Estrous-Urine-Gel__7798.aspx

I love this stuff for many reasons; mostly that is comes from single doe - and you can really stick this stuff to trees/stumps in and around your treestand. I don't go in the woods without it.

Good luck - let us know how it works and keeped tuned to bowhunting.com for the latest information and watch "BOWHUNT OR DIE" every friday throughout the season.

The Code Red is also a great line of cheaper scents. Put some buck urine in a few mock scrapes, and Have averaged 100 pics a week at each scrape of bucks working it over.

If you are going to use a scent from Code Blue, use their Tarsal Gland gel. It's an all purpose curiousity scent that can be used throughout the season. The Tarsal Gland is the primary communicator for the whitetail, period. When two whitetails who have never "met" first come across each other, they scent the others tarsal gland, it's like a formal greeting for deer. It contains information regarding sex, age, dominance, social status and estrous levels in doe. Whenever you apply some Tarsal Gland, all deer immediately recognize an unfamiliar deer in the area and come to investigate.

The strength of Tarsal Gland doesn't lie so much in the scent itself, it lies in the information the deer is seeking to obtain.

Not to down grade code blue, but buck fever synthetics makes the BF forehead spray, that will not only work better than code blue gel or any other gels on the market, but it will last longer and never spoil!
