So it was finally warm enough to get out and so some shooting. First order of business was to paper tune the new rest. After a while I got to noticing my fletching was rubbing on the arm (QAD rest). I have the cock feather perpendicular to the knock.
So my question is: Is there a way the cock feather should go? Does it matter? When my cf is in line with my string, no problems.

It sounds like a timing issue. That rest should be all the way down by the time your fletchings reach it. You should be able to shoot cock vane up, down, inside or outside and have no contact whatsoever. I'd take it to the pro shop and have them retie your cord. Then have them watch you shoot it to make sure it has no contact.

If you can orient your arrow to where you have no contact issues.....

..............then you don't need to do anything else. Makes no difference which way it's oriented, for a compound bow archer.

    Rock on.

    Thanks for the input guys.
Yeah there is no drag when it's orientated "up". I assumed it was all good, just wanted to make sure.

I'm new to this. If it doesn't make a difference for a compound bow archer then why even have cock feather at all?

You don't need one unless you want one. On my deer hunting arrows all the feathers are the same. On the arrows I am currently shooting I have a different cock feather just because I wanted one and to make nocking the arrow a little more automatic.

Edit to add: Even in trad shooting you don't need a cock feather that's different from the hen feathers, it just making nocking the arrow more automatic so that it is oriented correctly.

So your arrow leaves the bow the same exact way every time. Accuracy is made because of consistency. If you do everything exactly the same everytime you shoot you will be accurate.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. One word I've seen time and again in regards to archery is consistency.

I dont use a cock vane anymore. It has become very natural for me to look at the arrows and make sure they are on the bow right.
I have mine fletched with 3 black blazer vanes.

It dose not matter what direction the CF is in as long as it clears the cabels/riser & rest. The arrow will start to spin inflight anyway :)
