A spin off the Swamp people thread... anyone watch the show "Coal"? Looks like a great reality show, no acting, no scripts... the camera crew had to be certified to be miners just to go in to film... very real. And it takes place in Mcdowell county wv, I do Alot of atv riding there, so It's pretty cool to see the real lifestyles of those who live there.

And it's a cool fact that these "West VA mountain people" provide over 50% of the country's electricity.(coal in general not just wva)

I lived there almost my entire life. And worked around mines for years, and can say, they hammed it up a bit for the camera. Little thick on the accent. But most of it was pretty correct for a fly by night mine operator.

I cannot think of a job I would like to do less than going into some tight space, getting coal dust in my lungs, and having an absolute claustrophobic nightmare while mining coal. Those guys have my respect.

I loved working around the mines. Just couldn't find a job in the late 80's early 90's, so I had to go to college. Out west, is not near as cramp. They have 8ft seams out there. But bad news is the rock that falls not can kill you, where in a 44" mine, just smash ya.

Yeah, I was going to actually make a post about this show myself. I have mad respect for these guys. AND its neat to see a show about a coal mine in my company's service territory.
