Some of you may remember me posting about the Department of Corrections sending me a letter asking me if I was still interested ...this was a year or two ago.... The NYSDOC called me and set up a few dates for testing at the end of the month .... still gotta talk to the wife..... thoughts? Experiences?
Does it require shift work? If I ever have a choice I will never do shift work, rotating shifts, whatever, again.
Sorry in advance Tony but Bruce what's with the drones crashing in the marshes out there? I'd sure like a drone to do some scouting in the marshes I hunt on the Shore.
I have been kind of out of touch today so I don't know what you are referring too. Start a thread, post a link. This sounds very interesting.
Yeah, its all that ... for training and until I get back close to home it'll be 4 days on, 7 days off... and reversed ...
The days like that I probably wouldn't mind but when I had to work shifts like midnite to 8:00 those sucked and I didn't like how they affected me and the family. I didn't quit then, though LOL, you gotta do what needs done but I swore when I didn't have to do it any more I wouldn't if it could be helped.
I have a solid job that I like ... this would be quite a raise after 1 year .... plus there will always be a need for it .... I wonder if it's boring?
Do you think Jan will be ecstatic about starting the new home business and now you won't be there to support? How do you think Andrew is going to react? You still have to deal with your rental property on the days off. The extra money is always nice, but if it comes with a lose of happiness it isn't worth it.
Tony, before I became a cop, I spent 3 months as a CO at a minimum security facility. Worse 3 months of my life. Your situation could be night & day from mine, though. I wish you luck in making a decision. My mom would tell me "pray on it", but I'm sure you don't need to be told that! :D
Mark, those were all my first thoughts .... in some ways I will be around alot as they have you do doubles while your away, allowing you alot of time home ... and it is only for a year ish .... I don't know.... like Josh's Momma said .. gotta pray about it .. Josh ... why did you hate it?
I'll tell you like my best friend told me right after he quit after 6 months of being on the job. He said your a prisoner as well. The only difference is you get to go home for 10 hours each day to sleep and then your right back in those 4 walls. Your exposed to that life 12-14 hours a day. It's going to wear on you.
You have to understand first and foremost that I'm in a huge metro area, with some of the worst behaving human beings this earth has to offer. Basically, I felt like a baby sitter to 78 (on B block, my block) of the most horribly behaved, neediest and most manipulative grown men I've ever seen. They make it they're goal to break the rules and "get one over" on you, as often as possible. This said, mine was particularly a high-stress position for 2 reasons: A) I was on my own with these inmates.. and B) I was mandated to work double shifts about twice a week. Both of these circumstances were due to overpopulation and understaffing issues. The turn-over rate for CO's was unreal. I started with 3 others and only one remained for a short time, after I left. That was only a 3 month period. But again, your circumstances are likely very different, especially as far as the work schedule goes.
Tony, my girlfriends dad has done it for 18 years. He doesn't like the job, but it pays him pretty well since he's been doing it forever, and it's pretty secure, so that's the trade off I guess.
