Well life is taking a different avenue for me. As many of you may know I own a golf course here in NY and have been in the golf world for 20 years now. I was approached by a gentleman late last fall/winter about the possibility of buying his business. Hes an older guy and wanted to call it quits. Long story short. After COUNTLESS hours of research on this thing, costing out, expenses, sales projection, current client base, growth potential etc.... all the fun thinking and analyzing phase, I simply couldn't pass it up. I found very little wrong and the upside is gigantic. I've come across hundreds of business ideas and proposals over the years and nothing compares to this. I wont' get into too many details other than the numbers just work and the market is untapped around here and huge. So I closed on it yesterday and now in the pest control business . Never would've thunk really. Already have staff getting licensed (have to go through hell in NY) and things are cranking along. Should be an intense year for me. I'm not packing it in with the golf business. Still going to own and operate it, just had to make some revisions and hire a couple more people there (all thought out during the process). It will be a tough year, but well worth it. A great niche in the market around here... very unique. Potential is endless. I'll have to do a lot of hands on myself to learn the business. Fortunately the old owners are the nicest couple Ive ever met and they are standing by us whatever it takes year one. After that... sky is the limit. Expand to more routes with a whole new crew or 2 or 3 or 4. Expand further and franchise the entire thing? East coast? Regional? National? Who knows, but it's a no brainer success either way. So that's the deal. Sincerely, The Exterminator
Congratulations! I admire people taking the step into the small/self-employed business world (although you're not new to it). I'm not knowledgeable enough to make it work for me, otherwise I would consider it.
Nuisance Animal Control and Pest Control are BIG MONEY. Friend of mine quit his semi high paying job to start trapping/animal control full time. He was making as much as his salary just doing it part time on the side. Congrats and good luck on your new endeavor!
Congrats. I have family friends in the business that are doing very well for themselves. It's one of the things I've strongly considered to start or buy into when I finally move back to NY. Good luck and make sure you tell us any good war stories!
That's awesome! Cool to see people look at long term success and goals and not just dive in without knowing the ins and outs. Sounds like with that head on your shoulders you will do just fine! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good for you bud...being a business owner in NY is god awful sometimes isn't it! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Congrats! I believe that's what our buddy hardcorehunter does as well. You should hit him up on Facebook and trade some notes. :D
It's actually mostly Bees, spiders, wasps, ants, etc... Some rat bait traps with commercial accounts. Pretty cool deal. 80% of the business is a preventative application for the summer spraying residential houses for critters. A lot of interest living in the finger lakes region. The guy didn't promote a day of his life and grew his business 1000 percent in 5 years. Turned down hundreds of calls because he just wanted to work it as a retirement and at his pace. Thanks for the congrats everyone.
It's not currently going. I haven't been able to work for some time due to a medical condition (been dealing with chrons disease and in and out of the hospital because of it for years) and scheduled for a surgery to remove a couple sections of my intestines on Monday. Don't want to hijack this thread however so if anyone wants to ask or comment about it please start a new thread so we do not take this one off topic.
