buddy and I went to Manitoba last spring and he had a crazy encounter. A cub was chased up his tree by a boar, sow chased off boar, then saw cub and him in the tree. Charged up the tree and popped her head between the seat and ladder and bit at his leg and feet. He kicked at her and she went down only to charge back up this time above the seat, nocked his pack(with bear spray), quiver etc to the ground. He was strecthed as far back as his harness would go hitting her with his bow. Luckily she got enough and backed down the tree. He was brave enough to climb down the ladder and grab his stuff, while being mock charged, and get out from between mom/cub. He went back to same stand next day and shot a nice boar, after a sleepless night. I'm going back in may 14
My last experience bear hunting had a bit of a twist...the bear didnt come out and do anything to me, but did come within about 10 feet of the outfitter while he was baiting my stand. The outfitter made a rapid walking exit back to his truck with the bear sauntering after him for about 30 yards or so. Thought I was going to have to take a shot at a moving bear for a few minutes there, but all ended well. The outfitter made it to his truck unharmed. The bear did not fair so well... Now the outfitters son had a sow with two cubs, one of which, climbed up to his stand. He took video of this and you can hear the sow popping her jaw while on the ground watching both cubs. The outfitters son was nice enough to offer the cub a ham sandwich however...that cub made a sound like a ticked off cat and moved so fast with that paw swipe I couldnt believe it...then after watching his video, I promptly smacked him in the back of his head for tempting fate...He was unharmed...other than my hand print on his melon!
Sharpeyesam Buddy said she was up the tree in seconds, We then switched and hooked it to our belts like we should have from the start
