This spring we started inspecting all of our guests boats before letting them launch. Since our lake has no public access we felt that we were put in unique position to keep out lake free of invasive species. We went through voluntary classes and implemented our new policy this May. Well, today I found and stopped Eurasian milfoil from getting in our lake. The boat (from WI) had been inspected by the WI DNR when leaving the lake it had been on before it's trip north. The milfoil was tucked up in the trim of the outboard. I saw a little piece of weeds and had the owner drop the lower unit so I could see better and I got a fist full out of there. The sad truth is eventually all lakes throughout MN & WI will probably get invasives. It looks like we dodged a bullet today though. I have a weird knot in my gut though, knowing how close we came.
Congrats on the catch Fitz. That's cool that you guys inspect the boats, you have a pretty sweet undisturbed area, kudos for working hard to keep it that way.
Nice catch fitz!!! That stuff is terrible, decent fish cover, but it takes over in no time! I'd rather fish rocky and wooden structure any day over flats of milfoil salad
Not nearby, but there are a bunch in central & southern MN. The only local lake with an invasive is Burtside, which has spiny water fleas.
