I was just wondering if anybody uses a lapel (clip-on) microphone, if so, which one do you think is the best? I don't know anything about these microphones so any information will be helpful. Thanks.

I use one quite a bit. I have a Sennheiser wireles set up. I cannot remember the model off the top of my head. Been using it for 5+ years.

What is all the equipment you need for the wireless mic? How does it work with the camcorder?

I use one with mine once and awhile but I just picked up a cheap one off ebay just to try it out. I hope to invest in a real good one down the road! The mic will come with everything you need. Just have to make sure that your camera has the input jack for it.

You have to have an input on your video camera for an external mic for starters. It will either be a mini-plug type or an XLR type. When you buy the wireless mic you have to get one with the right input for your camera. The wireless mic is made up of two primary components, a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is worn on you and that is what the actual microphone plugs into. The receiver attaches to your camera and plugs into the mic input on your camera. The rest of the magic is done over wireless frequencies.

I bought a Rode SmartLav which I connect to my iPhone and record using the Rode app, then sync the recordings in post. This way I can put it on and start recording with the phone in my pocket and forget about it.

The recording quality is fantastic, worth a look.

I have to admit, that looks pretty cool. I could see that being very handy for certain situations.
