Hey Ibought a summit viper climbing treestand two years ago. I liked it but it was steel so it weighed 30 lbs. This year I decided to sell that one and buy a new one. I bought a lone wolf hand climber combo II. I like how light weight it is but not so sure about how secure it is because it does not have the full bar to wrap around. I bought the sit strap to get up. What do you think? Also tell me what type of climber you prefer and why?

I LOVE my hand climber combo II from lone wolf. Honestly it is the first climbing stand that I have owned. The stand though is rock solid. with the stabilizer straps the stand is like a hang on. You should get out and climb a few trees to see what works best for you.

I love my wolf as well.. this is my first year using it but seems really solid in the tree. I myself hate a bar on a stand... just something to get in the way when shooting a bow. I wear a harness so if the worst did happen and I fell.. I wouldnt fall far. Good luck bud, Hope the stand works out for ya.

^ Definitely make sure you're wearing a harness and a lineman's belt with it. If you aren't already, I think that'll make you feel more safe about not having a wraparound bar.

I bought the summit cobra this year to get away from the wrap around bar.. just something else to bumb up againt to make noise and get in the way was my thought on the wrap around bar when i hadthe older switchblade model.. I use the rope hss that makes me feel safe and secure at all times and def. worth the investment.

I didn't know the Viper came in steel. Mine is a 2008 model and is aluminum weighing in at 22 lbs. Love it! Never had the wrap around bar get in the way...ever. Killed lots of deer out of it too. I also like the LW hang on stand and use it a lot as well. It is light weight, packs well (usually have 4-5 LW climbing sticks) and is very quick to hang in a tree. I find they are both solid stands but for all days sits I prefer the Viper. It is extremely comfortable.

My dad also has a older summit and he loves it. It is aluminum and light.
