Let's talk about light weight climbing sticks... Leverage, Muddy and LW are the three I've been looking over. I like the fastening cleat on the Muddy, price on the Leverage, and I know many of y'all (I do live in the South) think the world of the LW gear. Experiences, most/least favorite feature? Any articles/references comparing them? Other considerations?
I'm real impartial to Muddy sticks. Other than the recent recall of some older style sticks, I have heard nothing but great things. I bought my set at the beginning of the season and used them a bunch with no problems. They're really simple to mount up and are stupid quiet in the process since there are no ratchets to deal with. I'm not the biggest guy in the world, but with all my gear on I can jump up and down pretty intensely without any issues. Now, depending on how high up you want to get, I would purchase four right away. I have three and that gets me anywhere from 12-15 feet depending on the tree. I'd like to go a little higher and thankfully Muddy sells single sticks, as well. I have only held the LW and never used them, but the simplicity of the Muddy sticks are what drove me to buy them without any regrets. Good luck, bud!
Ive used the muddy sticks and the summit bucksteps. I like how the bucksteps lock together on the pack in and out. The muddy steps are quiet, fast, and just easy to use. You need 5-6 sticks to hit the 20ft plus mark but since im filming now its not a big deal since two are packing in. This is a issue with all individual sticks, they must be short to remain stable. I haven't used the lone wolf sticks but I'm sure they're great
