Which leads to the question, how noisy are they?

Those aren't there best deal on Sportsmans Guide. The best deal is the 20' stick ladder for $35 and marked down to $30 with a membership. Problem is, they go through spells as far as actually having them listed and in stock. Heavy and made to be left season long, but for less than the price of one section of a LW stick, you can be 20' in the air. By far the most economical way to get up the tree if you aren't the mobile hunter.

LW sticks are for setting and resetting your setup everytime you hit the woods, otherwise the cost/weight is completely wasted. Can you imagine paying for LW sticks and using them for permanent sets?

Agreed. I know the LW and Muddy sticks are VERY good options for mobility, but most of my hang on sets are hung, and stay hung for at least the whole season if not the whole year. All I need is something sturdy to get me 20ft up. I have climbers for mobility (YES I know LW and muddy sticks let you stay mobile in trees that aren't climber friendly...luckily I have plenty of climber friendly trees in most areas I hunt :D ).

If I'm hanging sets that don't ever or very often move, I generally stick with screw-in steps (where I can use them of course). IMO the most economical way to go and much quieter and easier to deal with than climbing ladders. I owned a few of those stupid things and will never use them again.

Screw in steps equate to atleast $30-35 in costs to get to 20' high, even on sale.....not to mention the work it takes to hang them...I can have a stick ladder set on the tree in less than 2 minutes easy, probably much quicker if I tried.

Different strokes for different folks though. I agree that if you are a mobile hunter, LW sticks can't be beat. If your more limited and your stands are prehung, stick ladders are IMO the best option.

How boring would hunting be if everyone used identical gear in the first place though? I hope I can try a mobile setup one of these days, just isn't in the books for this year...or likely next either. I'm trying to stick with what I got for deer hunting here for a while...minus the craving to upgrade bows. :d

I feel much more unsafe with screw-in steps (the only exception might be those wide-base steps you guys posted about at the ATA show this year). Plus, they damage the tree (no I'm not a tree hugger:d :deer: ).
