I primarily hunt with my mobile setup. I have always used the straps that came with my LW sticks, I been wanting to pull the trigger on the Amsteel daisy chain rope or rope mod. They seems like a great alternative to the buckle. Lighter, quieter and more packable. Is there any downside to them ? I hear it’s hard to toss the Amsteel around the tree, but I don’t hunt many trees I can’t reach around.
Haha, seems I've been commenting on alot of your threads lately. I use amsteel daisy chains. I made them my self. Not hard to do, but take about 45 minutes per one. I just made them in the evening on the couch while the kids were watching tv. So my take is that the buckle strap is the best method for getting stick tight on the tree. Down side is extra weight of the metal, noise if you hit metal against stick, and time to keep strap straight to cinch down the strap. I have tried the buckle less method and found it very quick, but when coming down, it was a pain to untie. When you set the stick the knot becomes very tight. I didn't like it. Amsteel is the fastest to setup and lightest. You can't really throw amsteel around the tree easily, but can be done. What I do is hold stick on back side of tree, then reach around opposite side and grab the tag end. Then pull both around to me. The down side to amsteel is you are stuck on adjustment. Alot of times you are half size of the daisy chain loops. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Good deal, thanks for the response. I know I PM’d you a while back about making them, I just put it on the back burner. Gonna order some up and get em made in the off-season. 1/8” or 7/64” ? The 7/64” seem small but I know it’s rated plenty.
You won't notice a difference between the 2 sizes, it's only 1/64" difference. I personally would just do the 1/8" for the extra weight rating. I did mine in 3/16 more for just a piece of mind thing. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I did an amsteel mod on my XOP climbing sticks this year and it was great for the mobile sets, I will say I hung a stand and let it there for awhile and was a little nervous climbing back into the tree just because I’ve used the buckle straps forever but they were very sturdy climbing back in. My favorite part about the amsteel is how quick it is to wrap around your sticks to leave!
I have used daisy, Amsteel rope mod and strap. I prefer the rope mod the best to reduce weight, keep things quiet and I like that the rope mod is a little tighter that daisy. Just my preference! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
I use Amsteel Rope mod on hawk heliums. Way more compact and easier than the stock straps and buckles. I spliced mine with 1/4” amsteel. Took about 15 Minutes per rope.
