hey guys im looking to get a stand. im debating between the two. i like the mobility of the climbing but have heard they are a pain and can make morning hunting rough. any comments would be helpful!

Climbing stands are great just get your trees you plan to hunt set up or picked out before it's time to hunt them :D

Are you actually thinking of a full ladder stand or dd you mean sticks? Big difference between the two. If you mean a ladder then hands down go clmber. If you mean sticks and it is your only stand then I would seriously consider sticks. Just gonna depend on the trees you hunt out of. Need some clarification here.

Well if your hunting on your land and can afford a couple of stands then I would go ladder because you don't have to worry about carrying it in and getting it all set up and then climb the tree. I have ladder stands, climber and hang ons. Ladder stands feel more secure to me and can find cheap ones that will work great for bow and rifle. Hang ons are okay. Its just getting them up into the tree. Ill be hunting out of one the first day. I have used a climber to. Its also very simple to use. Just pick a good tree and your set. Out of the three climbers are most comfortable by far. IMO. If you plan on just buying one of something. Definitely buy climber. It will be worth your money and summit is where its at. All three will do the job. Good luck

Summit Climber vs. ladder. But as stated above, the trees need to be pretty straight with not a lot of branches in the way. If you'll need to prune your way tinto a tree, get the climbing sticks and a good protable. Either way you cant go wrong.

Go with a climber over a ladder. If you mean sticks it is a toss up.

I bought an Ole Man climber 10+ yrs ago.I love it.I'll take it out to my spot(woods in center of industrial park)and heavy chain and lock it,(I put chain through a old intertube from a bike,to keep it quite)at least 3 days before season opener,or hunt.Hide it with flora and branches, and hope for the ole boy to be there that hunting day...Lugging all that gear early in the morning is impossible for me now a days.I'd be ''spent''before first light!I'll have harness waiting on ground, ready to step into.Pull lines tied off to stand.Precut any small branches for accent.Have screw ins installed for hanging gear. All this will help me to stay all day.......for 2 or 3 days....my two cents

I live on the property where I hunt, and my stands stay up all year so ladder works for me.

Nothing beats walking to your stand and just climbing up a ladder to your perch. That being said they are a pain to set up and they can be ripped off.
I have two ladders, a lock on with sticks and a Summit climber. When I scout I'm always looking for trees and I depends what I find. If its a hot spot and I know I won't be ripped off I will put up a ladder. If I find a hard tree to put a stand in I'll use the lock on with the sticks (I really like sticks). The climber I use when checking a new area during the season or have the right spot for it or a hot spot where I can't leave a stand. I don't leave the climber in the woods! $400+.

No doubt...nothing worse than "hunting" for a tree in the dark. I do like climbers. I have a Summit Viper. Bought it about 6 yrs ago. Couldn't be happier as far as comfort. It feels kind of bulky on your back tho. I'm thinking about changing my setup to a super lightweight hang-on and lightweight climbing sticks. I think i could shave 3-4 lbs off my back and walk in a bit farther.

Its a toss up........ Where do you hunt... I have my own lease I have been on for 9 years.. I have 8 ladders that stay up all year long that are on food sources... I have 3 Loc-On's that are in wooded areas that produce every year... Nothing like walking to your stand, hooking up your back pack to the haul rope and climbing quietly right up... BUT, I have 2 areas that the deer movement changes all the time.. Here I use my climbers, so if I see the deer shifting 40 yards farther away, I will climb down in the evening, and just quietly and quickly move the climber for the following morning.. Would take 2-3 people to safely move the ladder or Loc-On's............ Each one has its awsome benifits........

If you get a climber buy a summit, they replaced mine with a brand new one after eight years of use (one of the welds broke). they are comfortable and easy to strap to the tree in the dark

Is there a way to prevent other people using or stealing your tree stand?
