Sorry for all the questions lately but I am looking at getting a new setup. I have been looking at climbers but also at sticks and hang ons (the last couple days). Which one do you guys prefer and why? I see they will both run about the same price. I know with the hang on you don't need straight trees and it is less trimming. The climbers look a little easier to set up and more comfy. It won't be used for alot of AM hunts mostly just afternoon hunts. I just can't decide.

    Thanks for all the help!!

Thats all right. Anything helps. Just can't decide. I have a few spots that I don't want to leave a stand. Decisions Decisions!

Both have their place. If I wasn't filming all my hunts, I would use a LW hand climber over anything. It's the fastest, and quietest way to get up most trees.

Other areas have no good trees, thats when the sticks and hang-on's work.

Becuase I have a cameraman with me all the time these days, two hang-on's and a set of sticks are the only way to go. Also, the new Muddy sticks will make it even easier!

Just found out we got permission for another farm. Will be scouting it tin the AM. That should help with my decision. Depends on what kind of trees I find in the areas I want to hunt. Thanks again guys.

Climbers might be nice and quiet, but that does me no good if I don't have a tree it'll fit.
And up here, I can count on one hand the # of trees that I could use a climber on..

Besides, I can be whisper quiet with my LW stick/stand combo.

x2 on the both have their place. Climbers are obviously more mobile and quieter and you can as high as your nerves will allow. Hang ons are more safe in my opinion and are possible in trees where a climber won't work.

I, personally, prefer hang ons but use a climber as well.

If I go with sticks. How high will 4 Lone Wolf get me? How about 4 Muddy? I would like to be 15-18 feet.

4 LW sticks will get you 17-19 ft up and you don't even need much space between them. If you spread them out then you can get higher, if needed. I have no experience with muddy.

I agree with the "both have their place" but the one difference is, at least for me, if I am going into an area that I don't already know which tree I want to use then, with the sticks and hangon, I can use any tree. With the climber I am limited to just climber trees and one of those may not be the "right" tree for that area.

Thanks everyone! I am starting to lean towards the sticks and hangon. I am hunting new areas this year and I won't have to look for that "right" tree for a climber.
Thanks again guys!! I really appreciate your opinions.

I like to step down but have stepped across on occasion and, more rarely, stepped up.

Thanks. I think stepping down or even across would be a little safer. Now I have to decide on the sticks and stand. Sticks will be Muddy or Lone Wolf. Stand I think will be a Loggy Bayou Predator. Thanks again eveyone!!!

Sticks and a hang on hands down are my choice..... I'll tell you why; a hang on and sticks will work in any tree a climber will, BUT a climber will not always work where a hang on and sticks will.
Actually a climber is way too restrictive in the woods I hunt....they are way too tree specific and if you use a climber as your only means to hunt in IA, then you are cutting your options of where you want to hunt dramatically.

You need both to fully utilize your properties. A hang on is much more versatile and it never fails you will find great spots with no good climber tree around.

90% of the time, I use my LW hand climber... but I always carry my LW Alpha Hang on and four sticks or another fixed position and a bunch of screw-in steps in case my scouting reveals a spot like Joel just mentioned...

Thanks alot guys I really appreciate the input. As stated both would come in handy but I can only swing 1 setup this year. I found trees for a climber on the new farm but most of them seem to lean and are very open. I think I will be going with sticks and a hang on. Thanks again!!

i prefer hang ons myself. just because of the trees in my area, and the price is a little more forgiving for a teenager, but maybe thats not a problem for you
