When I first started looking into climbing vs hang-on stands I thought the climbers appeared more sturdy/solid. Being 6'8" and 250, I need something sturdy with a wide enough platform for size 15/16 boots. The few stands I have hunted from with a rail/gun rest are the most appealing to me because I can feel when I'm near the edge while standing.
    So...here's my question?
What do all you seasoned hunters think of a Climber stand, and Sticks? If I walk into the woods to hunt, I can shimmy up a tree with my climber if the trees are right. Or, I can set up several sticks, then shimmy up with a linemans rope and throw the climber around the tree.
The hang on stands just don't appear as sturdy/comfortable as the climbers, but I wonder how difficult it would be to throw a climber onto a tree 15 ft up.

    Thanks y'all.

Kind of defeats that whole purpose of a climber and sounds kind of cumbersome. Summit makes a climber for us bigger guys called the titan, check it out.

Not for nothing....Buy the biggest summit they make...which is the Titian. You cant get much easier climbing and more comfortable then the summits. I loved my Viper so much that I bought a second one.

It can be a big enough pain being on the ground at times. I wouldn't want to try it. Have you looked at Muddy's Hunter model number 10102? The platform is huge measuring in at 34x24. It only weighs 12.5lb. I'm not a real big guy but I have to say it is more roomy than any other stand I have been in. The one I sat in had a foot rest and it was a nice addition.

I just purchased this setup. i love it. Whatever you do, watch the videos on their website when you go to set it up and learn to pack it. i'll be honest, if you get everything, sticks, hang on, harness, add a stick, and accessories you're looking at over $500, but you're also buying a stand that you can hike a mile with ease and be in a tree in minutes, feeling more secure than a climber, and not having to worry about limbs or splits... just a fantastic setup.

Oh, and the seat is amazing. i took it yote hunting the other day and my butt felt fantastic all the rest of the day.

    I say go for it.

I was going to get the Summit Open Shot and a set of steps so that there would virtually be no tree that I couldn't get in or at the last minute change my mind and climb another tree and still be about 20 pounds for the long walk in. Some trees are not climbable until you get up about 10.
