I have been looking at getting a climber stand like a lone wolf hand climber but jeez is it even worth it with the price as high as it is?. would i just be better off buying multiple portible hang on stands?? or do you guys have anything better in mind?

Here is a review I did of the sit and climb by Lone Wolf. The hand climber is very similar.

Post any questions or concerns you have in that thread and I will do my best to answer them.

I saw a couple of LW climbers on craigslist for about 225 I think. Something to think about anyway.

A quality purchase of a good stand will allow you to go where you want when you want. The initial investment is a big deal, but if you break it down into years of service..you'll get what you pay for.

I would also reccomend the Summit Viper, it's a great stand and worth it in the long run. I got a steal on mine tho, $100 and it was used once or twice.

Summit climbers are worth every penny - an old treestand never goe sout of style, it just gets more comfortable. This is an investment you can make knowing you will have it for many, many years.

I got the LW Hand Climber last year. Very expensive, but it's the lightest climber on the market. This allows you to trek farther into buck country. Also, it helps prevent the unwanted sweat and hassle.

Although not a LW or Summit, I have an API Grand Slam Supreme, and yes, like has been said, it's worth it. I don't think I will ever go solely to JUST climbers or hang-ons, but a climber in addition to some solid hang-ons really is the complete package. Treestands aren't something you necessarily want to "cheap out" on. Like was mentioned in Scott's thread, inexpensive and cheap aren't always mutually exclusive, BUT you generally get what you pay for.

I'd look into the new LW going for five bills, looks like a solid investment. :d

I have gotten 7 years of use out of my clearance sale $60 API climber....it weighs more than a new born calf, and is a bear to attach to the tree....but man alive is it holding together great.

In all seriousness, I HATE climbers. IF I was to buy one though, I have hated the Summits I have seen/sat in the least. I personally just don't feel safe in a climbing stand.

I'm a big Lone Wolf fan, simply because they are quieter, easy to pack and use, and most of all because I feel safer in a LW. Having said that, if you look around a very good used LW can be bought.

I bought a Gorilla Wolverine climber from Wal-mart before last season for $115.00 and it worked like a champ all season. Very quiet and very comft.

Ya know it's kinda funny how so many guys have different opinions on stands...that's why I love this site. I have a Summit climber and a couple lock ons. I personally feel 100 times safer in a climber...don't ask me why but I do. It does suck lugging them out in the woods but its great to be able to pick and choose which tree to climb for different wind conditions.

There are alot of good stands out there! You mentioned something about hang on stands and this is what I do...I believe in purchasing one quality climber and you will never regret it. However, don't limit yourself by only having a climber. I have 3 hang on stands that I also use. This gives a person so much flexability. Just keep in mind though...ALWAYS WEAR A FULL BODY HARNESS!!! It is a proven fact that more people die wearing the type that just goes around the waste then those that wear nothing at all. In my opinion the waist style shouldn't even be sold! Get a good body harness and you won't even know you are wearing it. Good luck to you.
