I cant imagine why. Every American citizen should share the same concern for the growing dependence on government and the unsustainable future of fewer and fewer workers having to fund the non-worker. What is there to argue about?

RC, I am concerned, however, there are legitimate reasons why SOME people need that disability income and there are some people that should be kicked off the roles.
My wife is currently drawing disability income, and has been for about the last 10 years. She has low vision where her eye sight is less than 10% of what is should be. She would gladly give up the disability pay, IF she could get her eyesight back and go back to work...beleive me, she would make a lot more money. Right now tho she is at retirement age and won't work any more to begin with.

Years ago, all you had to do was to apply for disability income with a doctors note and you would probably get it. In the last 15 years, that has changed dramatically. It took my wife over 1.5 years and going to court 3 times with an attorney for the SS system to agree with a judge that she should get the SSA income.

Then there are the people who say they are disabled, continue to work full or part time and draw two incomes ??? That aint right !!!!

    The article says

In 1992, there were 3,334,333 workers taking federal disability payments. That equaled about 1 person taking disability payments for each 35.5 people actually working.

When President Barack Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, there were 142,187,000 people employed and 7,442,377 workers taking federal disability payments. That equaled about 1 person taking disability payments for each 19.1 people actually working.

Today there are 142,287,000 people employed, and 8,707,185 workers taking federal disability payments. That equaled 1 worker taking disability payments for each 16.3 people working.

At this rate it will be unsustainable. There are most certainly people that cant work but what’s with the huge increase in the last 20 years? I’m not talking regular SSI but as the article speaks to, the disability portion of Social Security.
