I am making some deer jerky and eating whatever the wife makes for Christmas. Hoping she makes potato salad, cole slaw and macaroni salad. Ham or chicken goes great with those.
go for spiral cut ham, low and slow, covered with aluminum foil to keep the moisture in. Delicious. (saw some of the posts after, seems like someone is doing it wrong.)
as for us, grilled lamb kabobs, with onion and mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. Cous Cous and pilaf. For some reason we go Greek for Christmas, neither one of us is Greek.
We don't do a special dinner, but we do a special breakfast since I was a boy. boiled Polish holiday sausage. Not sure why but it's a tradition. In Venatione Veritas
No one is doing anything wrong, I just hate baked ham. The hams my wife's family buys are usually pre-smoked at a butcher shop, they just heat it up in the oven. The bacon and sausage that comes from the same butcher is outstanding. I just hate ham. If it is not bacon, sausage, or ribs, I do not like pork. I don't even like sliced ham on a sandwich.
smoking a turkey ! good Ole Fashioned slow cooked baked beans, home made salsa,, home made bloody mary,s triple berry pie
Not only do I dislike ham I dislike Easter because ham is traditionally served. Ham gravy is the devil's sauce.
My husbands Grandma makes an amazing Ham gravy...I never tried it before because I usually dislike gravy. I am one that dislikes turkey. At Thanksgiving, my Mom always spoils me with my own special dish of something different (usually stuffed shells or lasagna).
I love ham, hate the gravy. Anyone who thinks cooking a ham low and slow is good ham, is just plain NUTS. Or you are buying crappy ham.
One of my goals for retirement is to build an old fashion smoke house. I would make my own hams. Thought I could also make prosciutto and speck but that is sooo much more involved. I see why it costs so much.
Bacon-wrapped backstrap stuffed with cream cheese instead of baked ham I cooked it but I won. Wonder what it will cost me?
