Maybe that would help... That team (2010) was so loaded with exceptional talent that Bozo the Clown could have coached them to a National Championship. Even then, Chizik didn't know what he had until late in the season.
You're starting to sound like an LSU fan. Just sayin'. Coaches don't just luck into mythical national championships. They actually have to coach.
I totally agree but he had a different group of coordinators in 2010 and mostly players that he did not recruit... except Cam and I doubt seriously Chizik recruited him. Most of the position coaches remain from 2010. I don't know how all that works but there definitely appears to be a loss of coaching coordination/respect, as evidenced by Trooper Taylor pulling a player away from Chizik in mid discussion. I can't even begin to fathom how that would have gone had an assistant tried that maneuver with Saban or Miles. Coaching is required... Chizik just wasn't the one coaching that 2010 team. The same for Terry Bowden in his years. His brother Tommy was the real coach and it showed when he made a winner out of Tulane while Auburn went splat.
The mistake is comparing him to Saban and Alabama (like the author did). Auburn will never be Alabama. They will always be little brother. I don't think they have the program to draw a big time coach like Saban. They need to accept the program for what it is. A good team that will usually win around 8 games, with a really good season and some bad ones mixed in occasionally. Most schools would gladly take that. As soon as Auburn realizes it will never be Alabama, they will be much happier.
Well said and you are right. There are very few teams like Alabama. No matter who they are playing and no matter how bad their season, if you beat them at your stadium... a goal post is coming down. Few teams garner that kind of respect. A "National Championship" however, no matter how flukish, does tend to spoil people for a few years.
That it does. In the last twenty years, Auburn has been able to put together three great seasons. I'm sure the fans would love to see more of that, and wonder why it doesn't happen more often. Fact is that its still better than most FBS programs in that same time frame.
If you guys would like to trade Chizik for Joker.... I'm sure Mitch Barnhart at UK would LOVE to make the deal. Auburns main problem is still playing Onterio McCalebb as a RB. They need to put his speed out in the slot and let Blakely and Mason take over RB. With their dual back setup, you know exactly what the play is just by looking at which RB is in the game. McCalebb out there? They are running outside. Blakely? Right up the middle. Utilize Onterios speed outside and at least make the defenses start guessing what the play call will be.
No deal!!! Joker may be a great coach... there's just not much to do with that program. If McCaleb gets the ball the defense is usually looking for the inevitable fumble.
It was funny reading that article. It said the same things about some things that I did while watch some of the game. At one point I yelled...."Who in the hell is calling these plays". LOL
This...no secret I am not a fan of the barn, but cam single handily carried that team through a couple games that they should have lost. I sat in horror as he brought them back against Bama down by 24 at the half, in Bryant deny no less. He was/is a beast, similar to Herschel Walker. 30 years later the mutts still think they are those teams, and constantly cry when they underachieve. And just for the record, trooper Taylor is the bag man, that is why he can disrespect chizik. He gets the thugs to come, and then they act like thugs and chizik gets the heat. You got a five start back he just plucked from Bama a few weeks back. kid was playing in Georgia, his high school coach left and they somehow end up at Au barn high school. Gues where troopers son currently plays...the kids mom said they went there because his 12 year old sister needed a better school system in the future. The barn is currently being investigated for this.
