It has been a pretty tough year trying to connect with a few of the big bucks that I have been getting on my trail cameras so far this year.Passed on alot of smaller so far.So yeesterday evening,Chistmas Eve,I figured I'd go to one of my doe hot spots and put an arrow through a big fat nanny if given the chance. So I got to my stand at 1500 hrs. and began my vigil.Outside of the usual squirrel activity things were pretty quiet until around 1625 hrs. when three small skippers(2 button bucks) came by my stand. They fed on acorns for a couple of minutes and then drifited off a little ways..A minute or two later two good sized does came by at a slow pace and paused for while before they also started to drift.I was just getting ready to put an arrow through one of the does, when suddenly I saw a deer running towards the 5 deer that were in front of me.As the deer got closer,I noticed that it to was a doe;and was quite a good sized animal.Once the doe got in with the other deer,it began chasing and attacking the other deer;rising up on its hindquaters and kicking at them.It was interesting watching this deer being so aggresive towards each the other deer.None of them fought back;but rather would scurry from the assault.I then told myself that if I could get a shot I would take out the "bully of the woods".The shot finally came a minute or two later at 18 yards.I hit the deer quatering away through the right side with the arrow exiting through the left shoulder plate before landing on the ground. At the shot, the doe ran 60 yards full bore, stopped, turned around as if to say "what just happend"? and tipped over.I followed the blood trail just to see how the Griztrick did ,and noticed that the trail was steady right up to the deer. The arrow took out both lungs and the top artery to the heart. It was a nice way to end an afternoon hunt and get ready for a great Christmas Eve dinner. The deer dressed out at 119 lbs.A nice heavy Ct doe.I'm still going to be after some of the big slobs right to the end of January.I shot the deer with my Crackerized 70 lb. 29" Strother Black Death bow.Arrows are 376 gr. CX Maxima Hunters tipped with 100 grain Griztrick broadheads, and guided by either 3 or 4 fletched blazers( I shoot both).HHa Optimizer sight and Scott Silverhorn release.Arrow speed is 347 fps with just over 92 FP of KE.The arrow is still in perfect shape.the broadhead is perfect other than one bent blade.I had to take pictures by myself so there not what I usually like as far as quality goes, but they'll have to do.Merry Christmas everyone. This what I walked up on The bully
Congrats on a awesome deer. Is that a SR-71? Looks like you made a great shot on her. You guys are making me jealous with you all being able to hunt still. My season ended Nov 30th and I am already getting anxious for next year.
Nice work Rut, I try to get the nanny wackin done before the rut. But any time you can smash one is the right time! Congrats brother.
