Been working on a couple of food plots and doing some scouting / checking game cameras.
The chiggers have ate me up,.
Do you have any tips for keeping them off ?.......

My buddy has been with me step for step, they don't touch him, my wife never has a bite. What's up with that ?

    Thanks
    Les

This might sound strange but I've heard Dial Bar Soap can help keep them off. You know the old yellow bar of soap that smells like your Dad? LOL

Sounds like you're just unlucky.

Pick up some permethrin spray, either Repel or Sawyers. Spray your shoes, socks, pants and shirt, let them dry and you won't have any more problems. This stuff works great for ticks and chiggers.

Permethrin spray and use electric tape around your pants legs to keep them tight. Then don't forget to bathe and change immediately when you get home. If you do get chiggers, there are some good products to stop the itching, don't just suffer through it.

I was told of a trick that actually works. Get some sulfur powder and put it in a sock. Then tap the sock around your shoes and ankles so the powder leaves the sock and sticks to you and you shoes. Not harmful to people either.

I sprayed my stuff in Sawyers and it works well. Of course I went out a few weeks ago without spray on and my legs looked like I had been peppered with a shotgun.

I went ballooning with my Bro in Law in Bowling Green. We landed in a cornfield and my legs were destroyed by chiggers while taking down the canopy. I was stupidly wearing shorts but didn't know ahead of time we were going to go.

"Chigarid" is a great product BTW for getting rid of them and is available at Amazon.

I hate this thread... I've been itching for the past hour. I wish I had never opened it.

I would recommend sulfer when your not hunting! I use it on the farm all summer long and not one bug ever touches me! Even wearing shorts!

I use the permethrin spray for my clothes and it is amazing. I never head to woods without treating my clothes with it.

Ive got a backwoods uncle who swears by this remedy for both ticks and chiggers and I've seen it work.

I however, do not enoy smelling like rotten eggs. I just buy some Hartz flea and tick dog shampoo and alternate it with my regular body wash every other day, or when I know I'm going into woods...And yes I apply the Hartz flea and tick with a loofah, wifey loves the "clean pine" scent haha.

Most of the time you get them from the ground, so spray your ankles and boots thoughly this is asuming you have boots for hunting and boots for scouting.
If you do get chiggers (we call them redbugs in the south) take nail polish and dab some on the inflamed area. It will kill the little buggers. They burrow into your skin and can't breath with the polish covering their air hole.
Of course the color of the nail polish is your choice. I use clear.

Please be careful about using flea and tick products designed for pets on yourself. They are not intended for humans. Much of the research concerning Guld War Illness points toward soldiers wearing flea and tick collars... unsubstantiated of course. Most pesticides are nerve agents and the treatment for them is Atropine. The symptoms can be very difficult to diagnose and treat. Please be very, very careful.
